AM's last attempt at SEA-MEX was ten years ago. I don't know what demand factors have changed in Puget Sound since then.

There is definitely a growing Mexican-American population in Western Washington. Also, there are connecting possibilities from many other cities in the Pacific Northwest this time via DL's growing SEA hub. Those are the two principal factors that come to mind.

I can think of two big demand factors that have changed since then: JV with Delta and codeshare with Alaska. AM will get the best of both worlds for feed at SEA, and to a lesser extent PDX (only because DL's presence at PDX is much smaller than at SEA).

Mexico's middle class has also grown substantially, so there should be increased traffic ex-MEX.
AM also has a few more International destinations, so connections thru MEX are increased.
When AM is able to be successful to secondary markets out of MEX/GDL, I think SEA has a decent shot of doing just fine.

I moved from PNW to Chicago last year, where we have the fifth largest Hispanic community in the US, and while AM is 3x/day ORD-MEX, there's also a healthy LCC (Volaris) presence at both ORD and MDW. But what really surprised me are the diverse Mexican express bus services -- they depart from "Currency Exchanges" across Chicagoland and head south at all hours of the day and night.
