UA: SIN-HKG 166 $ / even cheaper with multiple round trips

This one is an interesting deal for every non-US resident who wants to maintain/achieve Gold with United, but who does not need or want to travel to the US/transit through the US.

For UA Gold, at least 4 paid flights on UA are required per year. As far as I see it, this is the cheapest way to get it (UA's other 5th freedom flights usually cost much more). I just booked 2 rt's SIN-HKG, with one same-day return and one with one night stay in Hongkong (the requirement seems to be that one rt has a minimum stay of 1 night in Hongkong), for a total of 298 $.

So in terms of EQM earned this might not be classic mileage run (6200 miles flown, CPM is 0,046 $), but it is good way to clear one of the key requirements of UA's programme. And since Singapore's Changi airport has very cheap transit hotels (past security), those 6 am departures are no problem either.

Actually this is a very common price for SIN-HKG on UA. There is so much competition on this route from high cost and low cost carriers that UA can't get a premium on this route.

The flight times are really awful (until North America returns to Daylight Saving Time) when they become a little more reasonable.

I think fares (on full service carriers) for SIN-HKG are usually even lower than this?

Just FYI. if you fly HKG-SIN. CX has many fare sales multiple times a year. sometimes dropped to $130 rt (tax included), sometimes they offer companion fare to reduce price. right now, it's around 180-240 depends on dates you travel.
I rarely check SIN-HKG, so can't comment on that, if I have to guess, it's probably cheaper.

On full service, ex-SIN is typically more. Budget it should be cheaper though.

For those making multiple rt's, the flight times work better if you start in HKG. It might cost a little more, but by starting in HKG, you don't have to even leave the airport in SIN for the return. You can get a hotel in HKG every other day where you can rest or enjoy the city for almost 30+ hours.

If you have Star Gold status and can print out your return BP online, you can go to the Star Gold lounge in SIN when you arrive early morning.

Not sure if it's gone as I'm seeing a little bit higher prices now in SGD.

Was able to book some flights at S$246, but it's minimally S$271.

Lowest I see right now is the GLE3ZMS3 fare basis, which prices at $193.40 USD

Thanks for posting.. I may need that leg.. Had a killer are SFO - SIN last year and looking for the same. A HKG diversion would be nice..

On the return from SIN you have to choose a 6am departure (SIN-HKG) or 930am departure (SIN-SFO). Depends on how much you like sleep
