LAX 2017 Terminal Move: The Definitive Thread

The original LAX airline plan move had EI moving, but by the time things were finalized, EI wasn't moving. I'm guessing EI didn't want to move, for whatever reason.

Bradley's remote gates were all full Friday evening, the time flights generally depart to Europe. Could make sense to stay in T2 w/ a guaranteed terminal gate.

I've used the remote gates for VS flights too, though I think that was because only 1 T2 can accommodate a 346.

LAX-DCA also checks in at T2.

Since they are coming in pre-cleared could it be easier for them to arrive at a "Domestic" terminal? (I know T2 also has Customs and Immigration but the bulk of flights are domestic) I don't know the setup at TBIT well enough to know if a flight without Customs/Immigration requirements is a big deal or not.

It's not a big deal. Instead of going down to immigration upon arriving at TBIT, you exit the gate area at the departure level and... that's it! You can walk out to curb side from departure level or go down to the domestic luggage claim - basically no different than any other terminal.

My guess why Aer Lingus stayed in T2... probably has something to do with its pending OneWorld membership. They are probably just waiting to be admitted so they can use the OW lounge in TBIT. No sense signing a contract to use another lounge when membership is already pending. Just wait a couple more month and then switch everything at once.

It's probably more to do with the gate lease. LAWA probably wasn't willing to give them the same lease rate at TBIT than T2 so they will just run the lease out before signing up to TBIT.

I am flying tomorrow OKC-SLC-LAX then back on Friday via ATL.

Moments ago I got an email from DL alerting me to their new landscape. The email is nicely done but of course this thread had pretty well prepared me for this simple run.

Things will be a bit more complex in late Nov going to SYD on VA then returning on DL.

For a short period of time, from about the time it bought Reno Air until a few months to a year after 9/11 , AA operated out of both T4 and T3; T3 served mostly former Reno Air destinations. I don't recall if the Ambassadors Club in T3 was rebranded into the Admirals Club after the AA/TWA merger before it ultimately became the Alaska Boardroom.
I recall the elevator button being TWA branded when AS used the former TWA T-3 as it's club location.

Had an 11:30 flight out of T3 today. Got to the SkyClub about 10:35/40 and they were turning people away due to overcrowding. We'll, not exactly. They had agents at the door saying it's very crowded and standing room only trying to keep folks from entering. I left and tweeted DL that they should provide food vouchers if the club is not accessible. DL suggested I find a red coat to discuss. My flight boarded at 10:55/11:00 so I was fine sitting at the gate.

I was looking at my LAX-HND flight tomorrow and noticed it has departed from Gate 133, which is TBIT, not T2/3. What lounge do people use? I saw on PP that the KAL lounge doesn't open until noon. Do they make the D1 people use the T2 lounge and bus over to TBIT?

Flew into T3 on Saturday and visited the T3 Sky Club, mostly because I wanted to see what they had done to the old VX Loft Lounge. The place has been opened up a bit for more seating, but what an overcrowded cluster. Went to use the men's facilities and there was a huge crowd and line inside. Whoa. Turned around and left. I'm sure it will be better in the future, but it is very undersized today.

On a positive note the Shake Shack is open. Big plus.

Headed over to Sky Club T2, which is really a nice experience.

DL has SC in T2/T3 and terminals connected via bus airside. KAL lounge i believe is open earlier. However not for PP. Also it sucks.

You can get them at work, and you can feed 100 people for a month from there for the price of a lounge day pass.

As for my T3 visit yesterday, all in all a not bad experience. I had a bag to check (after a long EZE/LIM/LAX day on LA), and there was no line, and the Sky Priority agent was very nice. Precheck just had one person in front of me. The SkyClub was fine. It was my second trip in there as a DL lounge. I'm kind of nostalgic for that room, given the countless hours I've spent in there over the years. I like the salad bowl fixins, and some of those "take out" packages are decent, too. At the bar, I did mention to the barman that I like the crystal they are using and he, too, likes that it was all Baccarat. Nonetheless, I tossed it in the dustbin when it was empty instead of pilfering it from the lounge.

Added information about bag checking to the wiki (source: the popup I got on dl.com when I checked in for a flight from LAX today). If this isn't the proper place for it, let me know and I'll delete it.
