Potential FT DO | Aberdeen/Lossiemouth/Inverness | 05-07 December

Hi everyone,

After a quick chat with KARFA about a potential DO up in the north of Scotland I've decided to trawl for names so I can go back to my management at work with plans etc

It would need to be late November 21st onwards to mid December. Flights are available from different parts of the country to Inverness/Aberdeen. We could have night in Aberdeen Friday, travel to Lossiemouth Saturday morning (by train) for a tour of 1(F) squadrons Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft and a brief overview of the history of the squadron.

Saturday night back to Aberdeen or onto Inverness or even Elgin but Elgin is very small and not a lot to do there. Sunday everyone goes home happy

So if anyone would like to go please put your name down with a preferred weekend.

Regards

Jamie R

Lunch at Findhorn with a visit to the Static Nimrod, at the former RAF Kinloss, (possible?)
or a visit to Fort George including Dolphin spotting between there and Chanonry point?
A stop at the Whisky shop in Elgin or a distillery visit.....
Thanks for the suggestion.."

Thanks for those suggestions skipcool3 a lot of the time I'm thinking of transport options for people, Kinloss *may* be possible but lunch at findhorn is definitely possible as it's just a short taxi ride away.

Once I have numbers I can go to different places and ask about visits,

Once again thanks for the suggestions,

Jamie

Thanks for the name check - I provided some encouragement, but the credit for suggesting, promoting, and organising this one is Jamier45's.

I would certainly be up for this. Unfortunately I can't take any further holiday from work for the remainder of this year so couldn't really make a Aberdeen/Inverness night out on Friday. I think the earliest I could get up would be around 2130. I could even fly from LBA since BE and T3 (you'll have to look that one up!) fly to ABZ. Actually on checking T3 have a 1805 flight to ABZ so I could get there for 1920 at a push.

Anyway, I could definately make the Saturday and Sunday events.

There are lots of distilleries in the area, Speyside has the most distilleries of any region in Scotland. I have a friend who works for Chivas and it is possible we could get a private tour if there are enough of us.

In terms of weekends I can do any weekend from 22/23 November onwards up to Christmas.

Now im back on a laptop and not on my ipad ive done searching for flight details.

All flights will be lowest fare available and with BA will be HBO.

Weekend of 22nd flying from LHR - ABZ with BA:

9 flights on the friday to ABZ
8 flights on the sunday to LHR £138 return.

With Eastern Airways:

LBA - ABZ

2 flights on the friday to ABZ
1 flight on the sunday to LBA £230 return.

NCL - ABZ:

4 flights on the friday to ABZ
1 flight on the sunday to NCL £232 return.

HUY - ABZ

3 flights on the friday to ABZ
1 flight on the sunday to HUY £308 return.

With Easyjet:

LGW - ABZ:

2 flights on the Friday to ABZ
2 flights on the sunday to LGW £62 return.

LTN - ABZ:

1 flight on the friday to ABZ
1 flight on the sunday to LTN £64 return.

Those are just a few of the options available so if anyone would like me to lookup flights for them on any of the weekends from the 22nd to 12th December let me know and ill check available options.

Train Tickets:

Train tickets vary from about £5.60 from Aberdeen to Elgin with a railcard to £8.60 single without a railcard.

Taxi fare from Elgin station to RAF Lossiemouh guard room is approx £10-£13 for a normal taxi however if more than 4 people are arriving on the same train a minbus can be organised for about £2-£3 a head.

Better together DO does not encompass the 45% who voted otherwise so compromise on "stuck together DO"

I have never been on then before. Thought it would be quite nice to have the novelty of going on a small turboprop (Jetstream 41) for once.

Are you based at RAF Lossiemouth then?

Potential FT DO - North of Scotland trawl for names.

Hi Jamie, I'd be interested in this if foreigners are allowed? (Canadian)

Can't do the 12/14th Dec but otherwise interested.

Thanks for trying to organise a DO!

rxfleming yes I am, just moved up from RAF Leuchars.

BotB yes you would be allowed as long as you have a driving license/passport to gain access to the camp whilst escorted (I'll be the escort)

Indeed. I'm interested to attend with my beloved, the above dates are no good for me either I only arrive back to the UK on the evening of 13 December and I will be New York bound 3 days later.

We'd be able to make an evening drinks DO, although I will only arrive back in the UK on 22 November so provided it is the last weekend of November or the first weekend of December then we should be a definite yes.

Does anybody know how to put a poll on this thread with dates like what happened on the Paris thread?

sounds interesting.

re dates, I am doing Survival of the Fittest on 22nd November, in HNL on 29th November and was planning on being in HAJ on 6th December (not booked). so 13th would be best for me but appreciate that given I can't do most dates in your suggested range, I am might not be able to make it.
