United - Origami airplane timelapse

Find hidden prizes in our new safety video contest 7 - 11 Aug

Before commenting about Jeff not being in the new video, please note that he was not in the old one. There is still a pre-roll video, and he's still in it.

The a numerous humorous interplays in the video, but a few might escape attention in first viewing:

0:28 Guy on a unicycle with baguettes playing the accordion, zipping by the signs that says no unicycles, baguettes and accordion
0:35 origami crane, Eiffel Tower model, and flamingo in taxi (tie-back to previous ad programs and other elements within the video)
1:34 Movie poster in the background for "Elbow Room 2"
1:36 & 1:56 Bus scrolling sign ("Lavatory Occupied" and "Baggage on Carousel 2")
1:41 The marquee is showing on the vegas casino "Legroom Friendly", with the chorus girls doing a kickstand
2:06 Men fighting on top of gondola (Same two from the Elbow Room 2 poster)
2:37 Kangaroo / pouch double entendre
3:20 FA blowing out smoke from the volcano after explaining the no smoking regulations
3:55 "I heart UA" carved on the tree
4:03 Bag overhead storage (no bins)
4:20 "No flight attendants were harmed in the making of this film" flashed while FA appears to be bitten

New UA Safety Video - Summer 2014

Not sure if it has come up yet, but 777 iAd-den just now, there is a new safety video. Nice to see something new, semi-wimsical, and slightly humorous. Also nice to see an attempt at something similar to what international carriers are doing.

Do they feature real employees, actors, or just voice-overs as before?

Oh, so they've once again copied DL and failed to innovate or do something different from others. Was on a flight yesterday and didn't see this. I'll be on the lookout.

Why innovate when you can duplicate!

OK, I'll bite. I see two options for a safety video - straightforward or slightly humorous. What would be innovative? Hologram demonstrations?

Also, I'm pretty sure Delta is ripping off Air New Zealand, whom I'm guessing got the idea from someone else...

I could not tell you if they were actors or employees, they were certainly old enough to be sUA employees.

Kind of an NZ feel to it. Employees all over the world doing daily things like getting into a cab and telling the driver how to properly use a seatbelt. Bringing the chair to an upright position from a beach chair, looked like Australia. A tour group going down the Las Vegas Strip on a double decker bus and showing how to use the emergency exit, etc.. It certainly had a more worldly airline feel to it. I tried to record it but pressed picture instead of video It certainly had more personality than previous videos. Personally, I was just happy to see something new on the plane.

Of course, an airline with a coherent social media strategy would likely have some sort of publicity surrounding something like a cheeky new safety video (heck, even a YouTube clip) but this is UA, and we know execution is not a strong suit...

I'm curious to see it myself. By DENflyer3's description, I envisioned UA's Cab Drivers commercial, the only one I liked from the current "Friendly" campaign.

I'm going to miss the little girl who tries to grab oxygen mask, and then suddenly remembered her stage direction not to do so.

Yes, pretty much the same thing except as a more whimsical safety briefing and no actual cabbies.

And for the $64,000 question -- is there a Smisek preamble?

The new safety video will be available on all airplanes start August 1st. It is now available on some airplanes. I would love to see it for myself. Jeff still appears for the introduction.
