Roll Call: Int'l Routes Added, Lost Since Merger
There's been a good bit of discussion on the new UA losing routes. I was wondering if Team FT might be able to put together "Tale of the Tape" on the incredible shrinking/growing/stagnant airline - ie. what's been gained and/or lost (or gained then lost) since SMI was appointed CEO of United Continental Holdings (which is different from the integration date of 3 March 12).
Here's what I can think of off the top of my head. Would be interesting to see what else there is.
Lost:
IAD-ACC
EWR-CPH
EWR-ATH
IAD-SVO
Scheduled to Lost:
EWR-IST
Gained:
EWR-IST
Lost-then-Regained:
??

lost IAH-CDG by gaining SFO-CDG
Gained DENNRT, SFOTPE, IADHNL, and IIRC IAHLIM upgraded to BF service
Rumored to add SFOCTU but nothing announced yet
I think EWRSTR was gained post merger at expense of on-and-off EWRCGN

Added a bunch to the list. While SJU is not really "international", I still added it anyway.
EWR-STR was announced before the operating certificate was combined [that was in 2011], so I am not sure if it qualifies.

Announced and loaded into the system, the start-up was delayed due to 787 delays and seasonality. Basically, it was supposed to start last spring, but due to the delays, the earliest date they could start the route would be at the beginning of the shoulder season. At that point, the best move was to push the start up date to March 2014.

We lost NRT-TPE, and SFO-TPE is not scheduled to start until next year. So now anyone TPE bound has to fly on a high fare with ANA through NRT or use EVA (thankfully now a *A carrier).

This fascinates me. As if Jeff Smisek caused the civil war/strife in some of these markets. If this is a rational dialogue re lost/gained routes, I'm fine. But the snarkiness on previous threads re "leading global airline" leads me to believe this is yet another biased thread.
In other words - would pmUA have dropped some of these routes? If so, then I don't see the point of using the merger date versus 1/1/2012 or some other arbitrary date.
