Futhermore, all the hotels are only in Europe and the Middle East. (To people in other regions of the world, that's even more significant than whether the list is short or long.)

Seems one could put together a nice trip cost by combining this, though I haven't delved deeply into the idea...

Add the online booking bonus, plus the current points bonus that increases the more one stays, throw in a night or two at the F&F rate, and the 2-for-1 or 4-for-2 rate. If all of this works, it makes the head swim.

I'm actually writing this from Malta Golden Sands (excellent weather, by the way.) I'll be receiving those double points for 2 weeks thanks to your post. I re-booked the entire stay to be sure.
