Purchasing Knicks Tickets (Madison Square Garden)
I'm taking a vacation in NYC (from London), arriving Thursday 8th Nov, leaving Tuesday 13th Nov 2012.
I'm very interested in getting Knicks tickets to take in some basketball while there.
Schedule suggests they are hosting Dallas on Friday Nov 9th at the Garden.
What is the best method for ticket purchase ? I've clicked on the link to buying tickets at the official site, which links through to Ticketmaster, but shows "There are no events currently scheduled at this venue.". However there are third party website offering tickets ( http://tickets.nyc.com/ResultsTicket.aspx?evtid=1931204 )
Does the lack of tickets on Ticketmaster suggest they haven't been officially release yet, or that they've sold out ?
Does anyone have experience in getting decent seat tickets from the box office on the day of the game ?
I believe touting (scalping) isn't permitted in New York ?
Any information gladly received

I don't believe single game tickets are available for sale yet and I don't think season ticket holders get their tickets until labor day or somewhere thereabouts.
If you want an individual game ticket it may be easiest for you to go through ticketexchange or stubhub where people resell their tickets once individual game tickets are available.

Thanks for the link to that thread - a little old, but clearly the website for resell tickets (stubhub) is the same
I noticed this in the thread :-
Firstly, are the Knicks still a struggling team ? (sorry if I offend fans). Secondly, does this sort of tipping really work? [I've moved to better seats in the FedEx stadium before in a winter match where there were plenty of open seats in the lower sections]
I noticed this in the thread :-
Given how poor of a draw the Knicks are this season, the cheapest way to get good seats is to buy the cheapest tickets you can find at the box office, then go to one of the ushers at the courtside seats and slip him $20 per person and ask him to show you to your seats.

The Knicks were less of a struggling team last season than they had been, and tickets were a bit harder to get than in previous seasons (google "Linsanity" for more info), but they didn't bring Jeremy Lin back for next year, so it's anyone's guess as to how good they will be next year.
Single seats are often easy pickings on Stub Hub, and Dallas isn't a big rivalry, so you should be able to get a decent seat through the box office or 3rd parties fairly easily. The seats you see listed now are what I call "anticipation seats", where the sellers expect to have tix later (probably season ticket holders), and if they don't get them, they'll cancel the listing.

Somehow I had the idea you needed just one ticket.
Stubhub is still the best resale site -- they guarantee you entry if something goes wrong with the ticket. eBay and Craig's List also sell tix, but the guarantees aren't as strong.
Sign up on the Knick's website for whatever they call their "insider" type deal (should be free), that way you'll get all of their marketing e-mail and will know when tix go on sale. Might even get access to a presale. Be on line when they go on sale and you'll only pay the awful Ticketmaster fees, instead of scalper fees.
And scalping is alive and well, it's just called "ticket agencies" now.

StubHub also allows you to buy multiple tickets, although because it's effectively a ticket exchange site, there may not always be two seats together in desirable sections.

The OP will have no problem finding two seats together in a desirable section on stubhub. The only question is whether the OP will consider the cost to be reasonable.

Your information is priceless - many thanks.
I think the Rangers are playing on the Thursday night (the 8th). To be honest, I would have preferred to catch an icehockey game rather than baseball because the wife plays field hockey and we were in Canada last year during the Stanley Cup which got us both hooked.
However, our flight lands at 7.05pm, and even using a helicopter transfer we wouldn't be at MSG for 7.30pm!!
I'll hold out for the online tickets and see what's what.
