Travel Leaders Survey Finds Higher Satisfaction with Airport Security
Quote:
According to a new survey by Travel Leaders Group, the largest travel agency group in North America, American travelers are growing accustomed to the variety of security measures they are likely to encounter at airports. Two-thirds (66.2 percent) of U.S. travelers say they are “satisfied” with the level of security at airports, which is up 6 percent from last year, and only 17 percent say they are “unsatisfied.”

In addition, nearly three-quarters (74.4 percent) of those surveyed say they do not have concerns about full-body airport scanners. This survey was conducted by Travel Leaders from April 4 to May 16, 2012, and includes responses from 855 consumers throughout the U.S.

“The vast majority of American air traveler have adapted to today’s airport security measures and, despite any perceived inconveniences, understand that the safety and well-being of all airline passengers is paramount,” said Travel Leaders Group CEO Barry Liben.

Barry Liben draws a conlcusion about "the vast majority of American air traveler" from a survey of 855 people (who may or may not be frequent travelers) ?

A survey undertaken by an organization with a vested interest in more leisure travel is suspect on its face. But this paragraph contains about seven more nails for the coffin:

This is the fourth consecutive year this consumer travel survey has been conducted. American consumers were engaged predominantly through social media channels such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as through direct contact with travel clients for such Travel Leaders Group companies as Nexion, Results! Travel, Travel Leaders, Tzell Travel Group and Vacation.com.

Yah, lots of corporate road warriors in those seven demographics. Self-serving indeed. No legitimate conclusions can be made from this skewed sample set. Feh.

Was all of the traveler survey data also provided by the TSA?

sounds about as scientific and convincing as "4 out of 5 dentists surveyed recommend Trident for their patients who chew gum"

we don't know if 5 million dentists were surveyed, or 5 dentists. But people without critical thinking ability know that "Trident is recommended by dentists".

those who stopped flying don't respond to stupid surveys like this.

look at the declining passenger numbers since the scope and grope started in 2010. those are the only numbers that count.

More like we're resigned to it it. Satisfaction and acceptance aren't the same thing.

Yup.

It's also worth noting that the survey was conducted by a corporate travel agent. Ya know, the group that encourages people to travel. I give this survey as much credibility as I give most non-independent surveys, whether they say good or bad things about the TSA.

Not to mention the fact that I can't trust a survey written by someone who doesn't know the difference between "unsatisfied" and "dissatisfied."

Dissatisfied: disappointed
Unsatisfied: not satiated

For example: The TSO was dissatisfied with the cupcake that he stole he confiscated the customer voluntarily surrendered. His hunger remained largely unsatisfied.

TSA is patting itself on the back with this article on their front page.

Does it really surprise anyone that an "independent study" using data provided by the TSA that casts a favorable light upon BKSX came out right now? Does it surprise anyone that this extremely skewed survey that largely targets the leisure traveler who sees an airport twice a year came out at the same time? No. The TSA is covering their APUs to stem the Congressional scrutiny and get their $422M back.

That's very interesting information.

So, according to TSA, this new survey is one that should be interpreted as lauding TSA for all of the good work they do.

It would appear that the facts do not support such an assertion by TSA.

According to this survey, 74.4% of respondents agree with using electronic strip searches. That is a 7% drop from a survey conducted by CBS just 2 years ago where 81%, or according to TSA, "According to a new CBS poll, 4 out of 5 Americans support the use of advanced imaging technology at airports nationwide."

CBS Poll

It would seem, based on conflicting data provided by TSA, that they really don't understand what the American people want. And frankly, they probably don't care.

However, a 7% drop in support is significant. It's unfortunate the management at TSA that is posting this information on their own website is too stupid to realize that.

It's even more unfortunate that, of the millions of people who'll see that study, you're probably one of the very, very few who will make that connection.

That means that of the pro-TSA group surveyed, more than 25% do have concerns about bdy scanners! Spin spin spin...
