Albuquerque Downtown REVIEW - MASTER THREAD Leaving Hyatt 4/1/22

I don't have any status but will have four stays in the next month at the Hyatt Albuquerque Downtown.

Just seeking comments on the property? Any hints on stuff to ask for? What is the fee for parking? Any fun stuff in the immediate vicinity to do?

thanks all

I enjoyed my 2-night stay there last November. The Hyatt is a 4-star and considered one of the nicest in the city. The restaurant is very good. The hotel is in city center, which becomes quite deserted at night, and other downtown restaurants, bars, etc. are several blocks away. Would recommend a side trip to Santa Fe (about 45 min. or so north on the interstate) if you have some extra time and have never been there. There is also a casino (no drinks served) on the interstate enroute to Santa Fe. As to parking fees, there is a charge, but can't recall the nightly charge.

Unless you must absolutely be in ABQ, I would recommend the Hyatt Tamaya Resort & Spa in Santa Fe. IMO, one of the best Hyatt properties out there. If you're on holiday, it can be had for $65-$85 on Priceline, and they very occasionally have decent Hyatt.com rates. The Tamaya is a always a favorite destination for me; and being south of Santa Fe, that puts it somewhat closer (I'd say about 20-30 minutes drivetime) to ABQ.

Enjoy New Mexico! And even if you don't stay in Santa Fe, definitely make time to check it out.

Just returned from a stay at the Hyatt Tamaya Resort and I found it to be the dullest Hyatt I've been to. Slow/lazy staff, sprawling corridors (long walk from my room to the lobby), average food, and average rooms with lots of insects (although for a desert location, the insects are a given.) It wasn't a bad trip, it just wasn't extraordinary ...and I'd rank this hotel in the same category as I would airport-based Hiltons.

But for Hyatt resort expectations, I was disappointed.

I guess what's "dull" for some is "peaceful and relaxing" to others.

I stopped by to check this resort out last weekend and although I didn't stay there, out of my price range and can't use PL for work I wanted to see the property. It was nice but I'm not sure it gave me a burning desire to be in BF Egypt. I guess golfers might enjoy it but since I don't golf, it didn't do anything for me

As for the DT ABQ property, I have completed my four stays for the Diamond promo and must say that the rooms I've been given have been decent but not great although I didn't expect anything with just Gold status. I do like their gym. I was able to get my GP1000 bonus on 3 of the 4 stays, the woman who checked me in was not the brightest bulb in the box so I always counted on the gentleman at check out to add it correctly.

Their parking situation can be manipulated. Basically, they charge $8 per night without any in and out privledges. $11 if you want in and out privledges. the front desk gives you a pass to go in and out. You can't charge the $8 rate to your folio but you can the $11 go figure. However that was to my advantage. Since DT ABQ is a ghost town after 5:00 p.m. What you would do is park on the street till you are sure you won't need your car for the rest of the night. Then take the $8 rate. The process works as you take a ticket upon entry and give it back at the booth upon departure the next day. However if you leave early (before 6:30 a.m.) there isn't anyone at the boot and it automatically opens the gate when you arrive at the booth.

This is also listed as a regency hotel but it doesn't have a regency club lounge any more, It used to I'm told but no longer is available. This was a disappointment.

I was always under the impression (and incorrectly so) that a Hyatt Regency Property had a regency club.. guess not...

are there other regency hotels in this situation?

I love peaceful & relaxing places ...but I'd hope there's an appropriate level of good service at those places to make it even more relaxing and worry-free.

Just two examples at the pool: it was too warm for the waitstaff to provide drinks/snacks around the pool, so you had to walk yourself to the poolside grill for each drink/snack. (The pool area is pretty large, so a barefoot walk in the sun is a decent task.) There was a towel shortage, so they wanted to recycle (and wash) towels quickly. Being poked while sleeping poolside with "hey, are you still using that towel?" isn't exactly something that I'd associate with a relaxing resort.

For $200+/night, you think they'd have complimentary shampoo in the bathroom. And for a resort, they'd have poolside lounge service that wouldn't complain about 85 degree heat (it is the New Mexican desert after all.)

Still, it wasn't a bad experience. And perhaps in my recent resort-hopping (I was in Hawaii and Vegas before New Mexico) the placed paled in comparison. But when I think of relaxing resort getaways with fantastic rooms and even better service, unfortunately the Tamaya won't make my list.

I am on a Western road trip with the family, and we are in the ABQ Hyatt tonight.

Not generally impressive, room service the worst part, largish rooms the best part.

After six the area around the hotel is deserted. Not much downtown scene, and if you are going to dine out, you will probably need to drive.

If you are sick of the car as we are, you get room service. Our room service was slow, orders were incorrect, and there was not enough silverware. Finally, the food was cold and the service not much warmer.

Concierge was nice and helpful, front desk was OK, parking very expensive. I would recommend parking on the street if you are here for one night and gone, rather than the $12 for in-and-out in the garage below.

Rooms were both uncleaned, had to request new sheets. Not enough bath towels, and too many washcloths and hand towels.

Not dissimilar to some other HR's in the US, but still not a good comparison to expectations or overseas venues. We will move on without any regret other than not booking into the Santa Fe Hyatt.

This is pretty universally untrue in most of the US. Regency is a brand as is the Regency Club in some Hyatt hotels. Although more have opened recently, I believe you'll find the majority of Hyatt Regency's in the US do not have active RC's.

Anyone else stayed at the downtown ABQ Hyatt recently? I've noticed weekend rates are pretty low. I've also heard some bad things about the service at this hotel. Is this place up to Regency standards?

I've stayed here 2x in the past and its a basic Hyatt. I also noticed that the rates for this weekend are extremely low ($69) which is combinable with the HYCARD promotion ($50 AMEX gift card) - so the net rate is only $19!!!

How basic is "basic?" My GF is staying there for 4 nights in January for a conference held at the hotel and the conference rate is $92 for a king bedded room -- some folks at Hyatt offered to possibly lobby to give her a "bit of an upgrade" if I called them and asked. I told them it wasn't necessary, but your post makes me wonder if I should.

P.S. Mildly ironic that during the time she is there, I'll be roughing it at the Park Hyatt Tokyo!

Basic for Hyatt - think HR San Francisco - w/o RC - newer building though.

This hotel seems to have discontinued their good rates. For the weekend I want to stay there(Oct. 5-8) the price is about $230.
