Hyatt Regency DFW Airport REVIEW - MASTER THREAD

Has anyone stayed here recently? How is the hotel for leisure stays? Is it busy on the weekends? Any insight would be appreciated.

The DFW Hyatt is fine although definitely nothing special. Although I live only a few miles away, I stayed there a couple of times last year. Once for a convention and once for the summer points promotion. The good thing about the hotel is that it's right in the middle of the airport with good views for plane watching and easy to get to the terminals. Also, let's face it, it's dirt cheap during weekends and almost always has point bonus promotions on. Right now it's 2000 gold passpoint bonus points for each stay. The rooms are not bad at all but there is no regency club. There are quite a few bars and restaurants including a very good Italian one. The West tower will come down soon to make room for the new international terminal and there are plans for a new Hyatt over that terminal ala Orlando. The original East Tower will stay for now. The hotel started as the Amfac in the 70s and was once the largest airport hotel in the world. However, if your visiting Dallas there are better choices of course. If you can get a good weekend rate at the downtown Dallas Hyatt then grab it. It's a pretty nice place. If you do stay at the airport one, they will valudate your parking ticket so parking is free. Let me know if you have any other questions or need any other Metroplex advice.

I stay there on a regular basis, and the two best things is has going for it are:

1) Super cheap weekend rates; and

2) Quick access to the airport.

Not one of the better properties in the system, IMHO. The west tower is particularly spooky, as it seems to mainly handle overflow from the east tower. It can be pretty desserted at times, and if I were a woman, I would feel uncomfortable in it late at night.

The bar in the east tower is kind of strange-- seems like something straight out of the 70's, not particularly comfortable. Also, the sound-proofing leaves a little to be desired if you're not a sound sleeper. Did you know that AA starts revving their planes up at 5:15 a.m.? I didn't either until I stayed at the Hyatt DFW.

Finally, I had an irritating experience there last weekend. They have made dedicated all the surface parking to the valets. Unfortunately, my truck is about 2" too high to fit in the garage. No one was willing to let me park myself in front of the hotel, despite the fact that the valet lot was nearly empty the entire weekend. This forced me to sneakily park there when the valets were occupied, then wait at a side door when I was ready to leave, rushing out to the truck again when they weren't looking.

All-in-all, its kind of middle of the road. But you can't beat it if you have an early morning or late night flight.

Agree with the above posts. Smack in the middle of the airport, smack in the middle in terms of room quality, smack in the middle in terms of ambience. I arrived via car and found it very confusing to get to as well.

> 2) Quick access to the airport.

Disagree. Too few shuttles running too
infrequently. Tired of waiting 30 minutes
for a shuttle to arrive; only to discover
that it cannot handle all the waiting
CUSTOMERS. I expect better. I grade
their shuttle service as a "D-" Overrall
grade is a "C-" [average w/out any
remarkable characteristics].

Good point on the access... I've always hoofed it through the parking garage to the AA terminal.

Sorry to hear no more Regency Club exists at Hyatt DFW - used to have great food in there.

Can anyone comment on TV quality there?

Thanks.

Hyatt Regency DFW - Walk or Shuttle?

I will be staying at the older DFW onsite property soon. The website makes reference to taking a shuttle bus. Can one walk to the hotel via walkways and/or pedestrian bridges, or is the shuttle the better way to go?

Also, I see reference to wireless Wi-Fi, but not specifically to T-Mobile (unlike the Grand Hyatt DFW, which specified TMobile as the vendor). Is the Regency Wi-Fi provided by a different vendor, and if so, what is the daily charge?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes you can walk. Its a combination of bridges and cutting through the parking garage, and it can be confusing. Practicality depends on how much luggage you have and which terminal you are landing at.

I would take the shuttle. No elevators and a lot of stairs to deal with. No, they do not have T-Mobile, I think its Core and the pricing is the same, $9.95 per day.

They do have T-mobile, I used it there I am pretty sure!

If you choose to walk, the walk is from terminal C, and there is one door labeled "To Hotel" that sets you out in the right direction. I have always walked with my roller bags, but there is at least one staircase you have to take.

Please consider staying at the Grand Hyatt DFW. I just stayed at the Hyatt Regency this last weekend and the rooms are dreadful.

If you are looking to walk to your property, the Grand is very easy!!

Thanks to everyone who responded - as usual, the information was spot-on. I arrived at Terminal A, so I took the SkyLink to Terminal C and exited at (IIRC) the door opposite Gates 20/21 (to the left of the Admirals Club and to the right of the food court). Once outside, I saw the "TO HOTEL" sign on the garage across the road. To geto the hotel, it was about three down-staircases (8 steps each) and one up-staircase of 8 steps each, then just before reaching the hotel entrance, a three-section down-staircase (3 sections of eight steps each, for a total of 24 steps). This was easily managable with a roller and a computer bag, but stick to the shuttle if you have heavy baggage.

My room (which had a splendid view of the Grand Hyatt, BTW ) was medium sized and very clean, with a Hyatt Grand bed. The other furnishings were a little dated but not horrendous. The television was a standard tube (I never even turned it on, so I didn't have a chance to pine for the LCD flat-panels at th Grand) .

The one problem was with the flaky quality of the Core wireless signal. In the afternoon/early evening, there were intermittent drops and re-connects, but the signal recovered within 30 seconds or so. The situation improved when I connected later at night.

BTW - the billing for the wireless service is directly to Core, not via the hotel. So, no points for the charges (9.95 plus tax), and you'll need to submit your e-mail receipt for your expense account (if applicable).

The staff at both check-in and check-out was warm and friendly. I think I will try the Grand on my next trip (I think the difference was about $30 for this trip).

Why walk when there is a free shuttle that runs 24 hours? The Hyatt Regency is a newly renovated hotel. They have a 24 hour coffee bar and 24 hour workout room.

So it isn't T-mobile after all. Guess I missed that but it could have been because on both of the stays I have had there, a nice manager who escorted me to the room gave me an account number/password for free access!

However, last time I stayed at the GH and the room I had was really lovely. I'd probably pick the GH in the future.
