Thanks.

I stayed overnight at this hotel last year on my way to Tokyo and it was much better than what I expected. Apparently, Hyatt Regency Manila is the only Hyatt property in the country, and it is situated along the Manila Bay area where other hotel properties dot the long bayside boulevard. Competition becomes even tougher, considering a number of high-end business hotels like the Shangri-La and Mandarin are a short drive away in the business district.

This property does not have the grandiose design of the Grand Hyatt in Hong Kong; Hyatt Regency Manila is relatively spartan in appearance and accommodation, but rooms are tastefully decorated with ethnic/local flavor. Never had the chance to try out their poolside bar or restaurants (I met clients over at the more opulent Shangri-La in the business district). But the Hotel staff were very friendly and eager to please. A word of caution, arrange limo services with the hotel and avoid driving by yourself: traffic can get really bad. Overall, my experience at this property was quite good. Check out photos of the property at the Hyatt website.

Added note: Ask for a room facing the Bay. This is where I have witnessed one of the most dramatic sunsets ever!

I too think of this as a pretty decent place and representing good value. It was also remodeled just a few years ago. Generally good facilities and food as well as staff. Nice but smallish Regency Club, and I was last upgraded to a fine Junior Suite (prior to my being a Diamond, as only a Platinum). I like it primarily when leaving early, ie on NW, since it is on Roxas quite near the airport and the traffic in Manila is as bad as I've seen anywhere and I've seen bad traffic in an awful lot of places! I'll switch from a Makati property for a day or day just before leaving!

Hope this helps! Enjoy the trip!

Stayed there about 4 years ago. It is inexpensive, but the location is inconvenient if you have business in Makati, and the building looks smaller and older than one would expect from a Hyatt.

On the plus side, the rooms were spacious and well-maintained, and service was good. Rooms were decorated in Filipino style, a welcome change from the norm. The hotel is close to the airport, convenient when leaving at rush hour.

As noted, it's quite adequate, and more, IMHO. It was remodeled a few years ago.

Excellent food, service, upgrades and so on.

I even got a Hyatt Manila T-shiirt as a gift as well! Enjoy!

new Hyatt Hotel and Casino in Manila

Just heard from a Hyatt email that a new Hyatt in Manila's downtown Malate district will open in the later half of September 2004. Don't confuse this one with the existing Hyatt in Manila (which is a bit run down in my opinion) on Roxas Blvd. not too far away.

32-stories, 378 guestrooms and suites and casino.

No sure bout that but this area is called Malate District AFAIK and has lots of nightclubs, discos, bars, restaurants and is really hopping on Friday and Sat nights and places close very very late (some until dawn).

I can confirm this as of a few weeks ago.

On one corner of this intersection is where the Manila Diamond Hotel (a very nice five star hotel) is, across the street from the U.S. AID office. I think the Manila Diamond Hotel is still there, so the Hyatt must be on one of the other street corners.

it will have the biggest casino in manila

From my search -this Hyatt will house the newest and biggest casino in Manila. Good dining options abound near this hotel, something its sister Hyatt Regency Manila sorely lacks. There is even a huge mall (Robinson's Place) just a 3 minute walk away. They were supposed to open in August, but were pushed back to the now current opening date of September 15. Lowest rate seems to be at US$81 plus around 21.5% tax

I wonder what category level this one will fall into for GP redemption. Anyone staying on opening night?

I wonder what special perks they give out to opening day guests, anyone here ever had experience as a "pioneer" guest?

I was at the Hyatt Regency last week, and also went to check out the new Hyatt. Looks quite impressive from the outside - I plan to stay there in the near future, not in September but hopefully in October and can write some report after that. Regency staff told me they don't know if the HR will stay with Hyatt and that probably after 2 years they will leave the chain.

The Hotel looks great. I have never been to Manila anyone offer up some advice? Doing a milage run in DEC to NRT and want to check out this new hotel. Im thinking of shooting over to MNL or JAL or CX via HKG. Is Manila any fun? Someone mentioned this hotel is in the "zone" for nightlife. Thanks for any info.

Kevino,

MPC stands for the Marco Polo Club, the frequent flyer program of Cathay Pacific. CX is the biggest inbound carrier in Manila and they were able to get this deal.
There are no shuttles AFAIK, but taxis are cheap and efficient from the airport.

Mach92,

Depends what you like..... Manila is a bit of an urban jungle with over 10 million rather poor people. But it has great nitelife if you like to go to bars. There seems to be an unlimited supply of young girls available in the Philippines.

I am at New Hyatt Casino in Manila

I am here tonight. I was scheduled to come ack here later in the week also. But i just asked them to change my reservation for later in the week to the old dumpy Hyatt

This Hyatt is beautiful. The room (they upgraded me , so not sure how typical) is beautiful on par with best Hyatts wroldwide. The problem is nothing is ready, and wont be until December. Most importantly to me , no internet in the room. Th eprice is actually cheaper than old dumpy Hyatt. But without broadband, I cant stay here

more on new Hyatt

Now that i am in cebu, i have interent in my room i can write more

The new Hyatt in Manila is fabulous appearnce. Grand entrance. Beautiful Regency Club. Lots of wood. It seemed I was the only one in the hotel and it was eerily cloying that everyone in the hotel was trying so hard to serve me perfectly. But impeccable service if you like cloying

Bathroom is remarkable. All marble with bathtub inside a huge shower stall. Room was large, and very appealing.

as advertised most services are not yet open. But room service is. And the casino of couse ( I won 5000 Pesos!)

But tommorrow night i will stay at old run down Hyatt becuase everything else is secondary; I need broadband.

One negative note, they promised to write me today if they could hook up for me a room with internet for tommorrow night. But i got no email.

I go back to manila October 4th and if i can get internet, i will stay in Hyatt
