If no alternative amenity was offered by the FrontDesk for Platinum Members, please use the following template when writing in to Customer Service:

I recently stayed at XX.

The following problem occurred:

Resort fee charged by this property covered amenities already included in my Platinum status (free Internet). The property did not offer alternative amenities. Please advise.

Kind regards

If the Customer Care officer have no clue about this, please advise them to:

Access their intranet site and reference a document there entitled "Resorts: Resort Charge Alternate Replacement Item for Platinum/VIP Members".

They will find this document in the SPG Learning Center under the Resorts/Hawaii section. If after reading this document, the customer care person has difficulty filing a formal complaint on your behalf, please ask to speak to their supervisor.

Resort Fees : How are benefits that are already free handled at SPG properties ?

We have a long thread on properties charging Platinums resort fees for items that are already included in the SPG benefits.

Recently, SPG has decided that these properties need to give Platinums alternate amenities.

Can people use this thread to list how this is now being handled. The other thread is quite long and it would be nice to have one place where the alternate amenities are listed, no?

Thanks.

Is there a thread that talks about SPG deciding these properties need to deliver more to Plats?
If so, I have a few ideas.

How about somethine location specific. We are going to the Sheraton @ Steamboat. How about throw in some sort of a diso.... for lift tickets? Not saying they should cover my 4 day pass, but how about $50 off or something. How about a complimentry tune and sharpen? Voucher for those overpriced mountain photos.

No, just that they have to substitute another amenity if their resort fee includes something already available to Platinum membes. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/14684445-post231.html

Anyone experiencing resistance to the newly-installed policy regarding alternative amenities for Platinums should contact Corporate Customer Service and send the ensuing file number to Thyetus or me so we can have the SPG corporate office follow up as well.

Thanks for the heads up. I looked up what is included in the Steamboat Sheraton's resrot fee (currently $17 but going up to $20) and here is what i saw that would be duplicatation of Plat benifits:

1. High Speed Internet Access in the guestroom
2. Two bottles of water daily (is this one a plat benifit?)

Is there a thread talking about what hotels have been subing in?

So far, most of us are probably still having luck with no resort fees (bookings made before they were instituted).

I have a reservation at the Westin Maui coming up in December. Does anyone know what alternative they would offer there?

I am hoping people would proactively post their experiences.

So William: and example is the Parker Palm Springs. They offer internet as part of their resort fee, so what could I ask for as an alternative?

The question isn't what should you ask for. The question is what are they proactively offering as required by Starwood policy?
