I'm hosed for upgrades on a USAir codeshare, aren't I?

Darn. This is what happens when I let somebody else make my travel arrangements.

Doing an SJC-MSN trip in August, and because the UA metal on a USAir codeshare was cheaper, that's how they booked me.

Everything shows up nice & clean in my UA itins, but if you try to upgrade, it says it's not upgradable. This seems to be in line with other threads, which say that the only way you can upgrade (using 500 milers) on a codeshare is on "standby" (which I assume means at the gate).

My daugher's going with me on this trip, using miles and sitting in F (saver awards available in F, but not in Y). F is wide-open at the moment, but looks like I'm not likely to be joining her.

So am I correct about 500 milers not working on a codeshare?

Thanks-

The OP already said that in the OP. I assume his question was about pre-requesting an e-500 upgrade.

You aren't 'hosed,' you just can't waitlist, that's all. If F is really empty as you say, should not be a problem.

Oh the part you quoted said "not working", they work, just not like you'd want

Please correct my misapprehension on this. I thought you had to purchase US 500s to upgrade. Are you saying that you can use UA e500s on US on day of travel - space available?

No, the OP asked about a flight on UA metal, but with a US code. In that case, UA e-500s can be used, but only on day of travel (no advance waitlist).

Check to see if there is an A fare on your routes...

My Last trip purchased, the A fare was cheaper than tickets plus upgrades...YMMV

An empty "F" section, a month out, on flights between SJC & ORD, isn't terribly meaningful. That can fill up quickly shortly before flight time. Most likely not the return, since it's on an A320 without meal service, but the outbound is a 757.

Question UA/USAir Upgrade compatability

My company just changed their travel policy, and now I'll be traveling on USAirways a bit more. Is there a way any of you know to use my United upgrades on USAirways? Am I limited to asking for Op-Ups?

No way to use your UA miles for upgrades on US. You can always buy their 500 milers or their upgrades at their rates, but nothing else.
