Power Ports on Domestic 757 Disabled Sept 2010 - to be fixed by "end of 2011"

Please forgive me if this issue has been addressed in another thread. I did a search but did not find anything specifically related.

I am flying on AA tomorrow on a 757. I was just on the AA's website and saw this information: Due to a recent issue involving a powerport on an American Airlines Boeing 757, the American Airlines team will proactively deactivate all powerports on the domestic fleet. The deactivation will begin on Wednesday, September 1, 2010, as the team inspects all 104 aircraft. It is yet to be determined how long the powerports will be deactivated. We realize this is an inconvenience and the issue will be resolved as quickly as possible.

Does anyone have any additional information? I was planning on watching DVDs during my long flight but my battery only lasts a few hours. Oh well - I will just read a really good book; my Nook's battery will last.

AA has three configurations of 757-223s in the fleet:
● the "75L" international version, with NGBC Business/First seats - 110 VAC powerports are enabled

● the refurbished 757-223 with 24F/166Y seating with 110 VAC powerports enabled (see link for FT thread)

● the larger part of the domestic 757-223 fleet, unrefurbished with 22F / 166Y seats, disabled 15 VDC powerports, which it appears will not be repaired until the aircraft goes in for refurbishment and reconfiguration.
As of 20 June 2013, the Inflight Power page states:

We know it is important to stay productive when flying, so we offer power outlets onboard all our planes so you can charge your laptops and other devices, keeping you connected to the ground even while you're in the air.

Availability
Outlets are located on the seat back in front of you or mounted to the seat frame below your seat cushion. We offer a power outlet at every First and Business Class seat, as well as power outlets in select rows throughout the Main Cabin. To find the powerports in the Main Cabin, just look for the "lightning bolt" symbol on the overhead bins, indicating rows with power.

As we invest in products to bring you a more connected travel experience, we are working to add more powerports across our entire fleet. We've ordered hundreds of new planes that include USB jacks and 110v AC power outlets at every seat, in every cabin.

Type Of Power
While most of our planes feature AC power, some of our planes offer DC power. We're in the process of converting most DC power outlets to AC outlets, but in the meantime, First and Business Class passengers can use an AC adaptor to keep items like your laptop powered during certain flights with DC power.* Simply ask a flight attendant for an adaptor, and stay charged for your entire flight. Take a look at the chart below to know what to expect on your next flight.

**We are in the process of converting all outlets on our Boeing 757 Domestic and 737-800 planes from DC power to AC power.

Oh great! And I'm on a 757 Domestic in 3 days and my battery lasts 2.5 hrs only.

And to think I bi&##ed and moaned that AA switched from 757s and 767s from and to BOS/LAX to 737s. Now I am glad that I am on a 737 later this week since they have AC power ports in all F seats. Just a plug. Imagine. No special power port contraption needed.

The last time I was on a 757 and I wanted to use the power port, the moron in the center took both power ports for the three seats. One for his laptop and the other for his ipod. I wanted to take the ipod charge and strangle him with it...

Guess plugging in the ipod through the laptop usb would have been too much trouble.

For the rest of this month, flight 25 BOS-LAX is on an old config 738 with DC power outlets so an adapter is necessary

How about AA adds GOGO Internet to their 757 fleet. It seems like all of my AA domestic flights lately have been on their 757 with no Internet.
