Lobster Restaurants in NYC

Going to New York in mid March.

Don't necessarily have to be fine dining but we want to eat lobsters.
Any suggestions on a place that specializes in these yummy crustations?

And please do not say go to "Red Lobster".

Cannot recommend it highly enough for a good lobster. They have a "menu" for the sides and such and then an index card with the sizes available that day and the price. I've had a couple 5 pound lobsters there as part of a group and my wife and I had a ~3 pound one IIRC. Both times were delicious.

I have always enjoyed the Lobster at The Compass restaurant. A three lb split and grilled one is still $39. It's on West 70th, the service is great, and their wine list is pretty good.

If you have a car, just about any of the restaurants on City Island will set you up with a good basic lobster too.

Been eating there for probably more than 15 years. Great lobsters and also great sides and non-lobster items. Portions (except for the pound-denominated lobsters) are fairly huge and reasonably priced. If you are cool with Spanish food and are not looking for a fancy place, this is where to go.

Specific recommendations:

- Lobster
- Chorizo
- Shrimp
- Salmon
- Homemade chips (basically a french fry)

While efforts to search are always appreciated, and it does make sense to retain older threads in some cases, this thread has now been separated from an old thread with outdated information from Father's Day 2004.

Lobster in New York....that's like having a bagel in Maine.

Red Lobster.....they don't even offer boiled lobster by the pound....so why does their name reflect a basic product they don't even sell???

Thumbs up The Oyster Bar Grand Central Terminal

I'm surprised anyone mentioned anywhere else. The Oyster Bar has the best seafood in the city and an atmosphere to go with it. The Lobsters fly in from Maine every day.

this has been my favorite for thirty years or so. Nobody is ever disappointed.

Don't even think of another place

+1 here. been there many times. Make sure to get your lobster BRoiled and not Boiled. Much better IMHO.

Also, the desserts are quite good. Flan, tartufo, and various sorbets.

I'm sure that's what some say about Maine bagels too.

Agreed, especially pertinent if you're ordering a larger (i.e. 3+ pound) lobster.

Perhaps, but they're wrong.

Agreed that El Quijote is a great Spanish restaurant but if you're really in it for lobster I'd walk the block and a half east to get to Francisco's. If you want more than just lobster then El Quijote is a great choice.

Both will be very convenient for the OP staying in Chelsea (depending on which part of Chelsea they're in).
