Very nice shots -- especially love the fireworks shot and the one of the Seattle skyline.Originally Posted by SK

I like the picture of the Church.
Here's a couple of my early attempts, taken when I just bought my D90 in the Conrad, Tokyo. I think I only had this on 30 second exposure, have been doing a bit more HDR work recently

Some photos in this thread would do well in a new DPreview challenge:
http://www.dpreview.com/challenges/C...e.aspx?ID=3361
No entries yet: they open tomorrow, Sept. 25, and close a week later, Oct. 1. (Both dates are in UK time.) One entry per person, challenge capped at 100. Entries must use an exposure of at least three seconds and show "a lot of" movement, "not just a bit." No restrictions on when the photo was taken. Basic image correction only (retouching OK).

HansGolden, thanks for sharing your pictures.
Did not realise that tripods were allowed in the Blue Mosque?!
There were a couple of places in IST when I had to hand over my tripod to security for 'safe-keeping'. Did not even bother trying to go to the Blue Mosque since I ran out of time anyway.

Yeah, I was pretty ticked when they took my tripod from me when entering the Hagia Sophia (they said I could take it in if I got a couple hundred $ "professional photographer" pass everything inside was covered in scaffolding anyway... I just cranked my ISO and shot handheld) and the cisterns, but they didn't at the Blue Mosque. I had made friends with the guards and chatted with them for a long time first. I wasn't under the impression that I was being given an exception, but perhaps I was?Originally Posted by phaleesy

I don't know. I didn't bother trying to go into the Blue Mosque. Would try it next time when I'm in IST. What time were you there anyway?Originally Posted by HansGolden

One of the photographers I met suggested taking a monopod and pretend that it was a walking stick!

Good idea! I've snuck my GorillaPod SLR into a couple of places that don't allow tripods.Originally Posted by phaleesy

I still remember being very annoyed at the guards in St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican for not letting me bring a tripod in. They said my rubber-footed tripod might damage the stone floor. In revenge (and for practical purposes) I pressed my camera (and myself) against whatever object I could find to get a steady shot.

Here's a good article I found (on my favorite photographer's blog) about long exposure photography. It starts at the very basics and includes very advanced concepts as well. Good article.
