J to the US - 90,000 miles (BMI - 37,500 c+m)
F to the US - 140,000 miles (BMI - 50,000 c+m)
J to Thailand - 120,000 miles (BMI - 60,000 c+m)
F to Thailand - 180,000 miles (BMI - 80,000 c+m)
J to Dubai - 60,000 miles (BMI - 30,000 c+m)
F to Dubai - 100,000 miles (BMI - 40,000 c+m)

Only positive for Gold card holders is that you can bring a companion for a 50% discount

However, if you have a large balance then you should be OK booking tickets in 2009 at the DC rates and then permanently moving the dates for a couple of years until you actually want to travel!

Swiss Travel Club was integrated after a year, with 1:1 conversion of miles to M&M

Exclamation

Ok, folks. As this story begins to unfold, there's going to be:
  • Lots of information
  • Lots of mis-information
  • Lots of speculation
  • Lots of what do I do with X miles

Let's try to keep this thread about the first two and not the third & fourth - otherwise this will descend in to a royal mess. We have a speculation thread already and there's no shortage of what to do with threads @:-)

Has anyone got a link to bmi's confirmation of this? Or did I miss something earlier?

You reckon the website's been updated???

That lot are already wondering which wall they'll be lined up against, now that the revolution has come.

Mr. J - could you post something from the wires, if you have access?

From the depths of the report issued by LH this morning:

On 10 October Sir Michael Bishop on behalf of the
BBW Partnership Ltd. exercised an option which requires
Lufthansa to purchase 50 per cent plus one share in
British Midland PLC (bmi). This represents the entire
shareholding in bmi currently owned by the BBW Partnership
Ltd. The option is part of the existing shareholders
agreement of bmi dated 9 November 1999. The completion
of the exercise is expected to take place not before
12 January 2009. It is subject to anti-thrust approval
and regulatory requirements. Discussions regarding
the future structure and options are ongoing between
Lufthansa, Sir Michael Bishop and bmi.
Otherwise no events have occured that have a
material effect on the Group’s earnings, financial and
assets position.

At least now we know why the new *A lounge is so abysmal - clearly LH has this in the making and decided to make an interim lounge. Me thinks the new terminal will be completely LH (bmi) dominated which numerous new flights coming from there and the reduction of many smaller routes.

They are 'like for like' if you only have a finite number of miles to spend. Today, if you have 160k in your account, you can get 2 F tickets to Thailand - yes, you need to pony up the 'cash' part but its still insignificant in terms of the usual cost of the tickets. That same person hoping for 2 F tix to BKK is totally stuffed under the M&M reward chart, however you cut it.

I guess the comparison is appropriate for those who are miles poor and cash rich. Anyone in the opposite situation may have an alternative view.
