I heard a rumor that the ATMs at Reykjavik Keflavik Int'l only dispense euros or dollars, so one has to travel into the city to change money at an ATM. Does anyone know if this is true?

Also, are there any HSBC ATMS at KEF?
Thanks!
It certainly wasn't the case that you couldn't get local currency at KEF when I was there in March. Don't remember seeing an HSBC ATM off the top of must head. I'm sure the KEF web site might have more info.

ATMs inside non-Schengen sector (i.e., flights to UK and US) dispense foreign currencies (if I recall correctly). Otherwise, the two ATMs outside customs dispense IS Kroners.
I don't recall seeing non-Icelandic banks in the island. The population (320,000) is so small they don't need another bank.

Landsbanki has the banking franchise at KEF. They have ATM's in the departure area both Schengen and non-Sccengen that dispense kronas, Euros and Dollars. I think I remember seeing Danish kronas as well. On arrival, you can of course go to these machines before heading down to arrivals but as stated already there are several machines outside of customs (to the left).
