3.15 AM actually . This would be 3.45 if BT online check in would work for HEL... damn.

I'm an early bird anyway so doesn't hurt me, but I perfectly understand what you mean. The airport hotels at RIX are pretty dire, though.

Now that FlyLAL is out of business, AirBaltic has way less competition on Lithuania.

This is what you get at http://www.flylal.com/

"Dear Passengers,

We regret to inform you that flyLAL – Lithuanian Airlines ceased its operations from 17th of January, 2009.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this will cause you. In case of urgent necessity to travel, we kindly recommend to use flights of other airlines.
Please submit your claims by post to A.Gustaicio street 4, LT-02512, Vilnius or send it by email info@flylal.com. Claims form.

+370 5 2525019 (hotline information for customers)."

Apparently yes, the already-completed cut in flights will remain.

In today's local press BT's CEO mentions having predicted the reduced demand for flights due to the economic slowdown even before TE's demise (which in fact BT or its allies had been trumpeting already in the autumn). So likely no change here.

It's been mentioned also that SK, KL, SN Brussels Airlines and LO have been asked / have expressed interest in servicing VNO with new flights.

Estonian media, which is not very reliable source, reports that Lithuanian minister has discussed with SAS about possibilities to fill the gap left by FlyLal at VNO. I believe that, but it's more complex whether it really may mean Estonian Air entering the market. Company only admitted interest.

This topic has turned to a discussion about Baltic airlines. Though strongly SAS related, should we start a new one?
