One of those charter flights to Phuket operated by TUIFlynordic (Corsair 747)
can handle a massive load of 582 passengers !!

I hardly think you can call the A380 a sardine can. So far even in economy the leg room and pitch is better and in premium classes the product is far superior.

I'd gladly be caught on one, hopefully not dead tho

I can follow a bit here. I have been on the CPH-BKK with TG some times and there is always a lot of tourist and kids - so if it was on a 380 then double that number - a bit scary :-)

But yes to the picth and that is nice for me cause economy is sometimes a bit to small (or I am to big!!!).

But I would also gladly be caught on one - just bring em on :-)

Didn't think of that. Indeed a very scary thought. Not sure why but this mornings BA flight was really packed with kids and babys. I sat in 1C and I still felt surrounded. Oh well I suppose it's the family travelling season right now . I can only imagine an A380 filled up with families, and then having to be there for 12 or so hours. Ouch.

Sorry if I was not expressing my self clearly here: I would be happy to fly the 380 in all currently known configurations (SQ, EK and QF) - even i Y. I also gladly fly TG to BKK (which I belive delivers a superior product on this route in all classes). What I mean was the charter flights to Thailand with 500+ in a 747 - arghhh

CPH - BKK on TG -> only problem is the very old 747 which need some upgrade compared to the other ones TG have.

Just wait for the charter companies to get a 380 in their hands... The max. seating capacity in a single class version is, as known, 853. The only limitation is the fact that not all smaller airports are capable for handling the holiday crowds (and A380). On the other hand, this charter fits great to destinations that use (old) military fields with long runways and hangar terminals.

This is exactly what I think soon will happen - just waiting for the first destinations to be ready. From the nordics in the winter time people by a very large number migrate to the south (and east).

So 800 pax in one box is very suited for charter - glad I am not on board.

Same here.

We sorely need EU-wide standards on minimum comfort in planes - the current sardine cans are a health risk, and the situation is only getting worse as new generations grow taller.

EU bureaucrats love to decide how a cucumber should be, why not decide comfortableness in air?

One (rather) stupid idea ... customers can always vote with their feet and avoid those airlines whose service (or comfort) is not up to their standards.

But of course, some of the customers prefer only the cheap fares and do not care so much about the extra space (but like to complain still).

Let the airlines learn it the hard way if their service is not up to the demands. But in reality, certain nationalities like to fly with their flag airline so these airlines always have secured life.

Nightmare waiting to happen. It should definitely be made illegal. Can you imagine, 800 pax and 50% are children? ARHHH

Totally agree that people have national pride as part of their selection criteria. I stuck with SAS for longer than I would have because of national pride, but today I'm generally happy I got away. I think SAS are a perfect example of a carrier that is living too much on the flag carrier image. They need to start competing properly and that unfortunately means trimming their operations and confronting those pesky unions in Scandinavia!! (SAS isn't much better than AZ at times )

The only luck here is that Airbus only produces 21 A380 in 2009 and therefore it is going to be a long time before the charter business is going to get one :-)

But yes - it is going to happen as soon as possible - and no - I will not be on that box going to BKK on a charter flight - long life the alternative with normal airline business :-)

Charter -> been there - done that - no more

A note on the 744 operated by Thomas Cook Scandinavia: it does have a 'royal class' in the UD. Saw a sign in T5 checkin and asked the lady what it meant.
