I've had some 6-12 hour delays on Finnair long haul flights but the "wait for next day to travel" seems to not hit me as frequently with AY as with SK.

With three aircraft out of action there was going to be some problems. Seems LN-RKO has returned from Malta last night as well, that should help.

SK and AY are IATA carriers, so they can rebook onto OAL during such situations, not to forget the 'no endorsements required' option with the *A and OW partners. So any technical issues don't get the dramatic situation(s) like DY has.

I was on SK926 on March 24. Sitting on the plane for 2 hours until the flight was finally cancelled. I made it back home with a 36 hours delay, a re-routing, an extra overnight stay and a downgrade (from 3A in C on SK to 40H in Y on a UA 777). Flying Y on UA should be punishable as assault and battery

What would be an appropriate compensation to ask for? It must be in the thousands!

It indeed seems like SAS are having their share of tech issues at the moment.
LN-RKP seems to be stranded in IAD since March 24
LN-RKH has been siting ideal in CPH since March 21
LN-RKO came back from MLA late on March 26, after being there for more than a week.
Unfortunattely LN-RKF vent to MLA late today, so the troubles are properly not over yet.

Unfortunately your compensation are regulated through the EU regulations, and I don't know of any airline that will go above the compensation dictated by EU.
The good news is that as soon as you write to SAS, you will get the compensation you are entitled too. It might take a couple of months, but I've never seen SAS trying to cheat out of a compensation after complaining through their customer care program. In fact I've been compensated on trip where we were diverted to Manchester and bused to Birmingham. We arrived in Birmingham like 10 min. over the limit where you get no compensation and I got compensated without any arguments.

Mr.Niels should ask for downgrade compensation (at least 75% of the segment value) and compensation for the delay (600€). I agree, SK is usually paying up without too much argument, in most of my cases within 4 weeks.

After I got diamond status they normally pay up within 1-2 weeks, but on my Birmingham trip I was only silver and it took about 2 months before I heard from them, but the first none auto e-mail was an agreement that they acknowledge the delay and that I was entitled to a compensation. They just needed my bank details and I would have the money in less than 5 bank days, which also happened.

In the course of the past 365/366 days, on how many days has there not been at least one SK TATL schedule disruption of 6 hours or more (i.e. delays of 6+ hours and/or cancellation)?

I have CPH-IAD flight on coming Sunday. It seems at the moment this flight is quite irregular. If the flight is cancelled or long delayed how long before the flight time will SAS generally be able to inform ? Depending on that I need to keep an eye on the alternatives as I must reach IAD on Sunday.
