SAS with in-flight connectivity (again)
SAS has planned to reintroduce in-flight connectivity on its long haul fleet, and install this on its shorthaul fleet
From SAS FB pages
From what I've heard, first 737 will get this installed during spring 2011
From SAS FB pages
Breaking news for our Facebook fans! SAS will become one of the first airlines in the world to offer in-flight connectivity, such as internet and mobile services, on both European and intercontinental routes. More information will follow ;-).

This is good stuff. No need for IFE. My laptop + WiFi = The best IFE.

I just hope that SAS cares for the customers and that the "mobile services" do not include voice.
I don't really like to sit next to a noisy chatter - and unlike the trains, one can not escape on a plane...

Nah, no really need Wifi to make a good IFE. It doesn't beat loading up a full season of Top Gear on the laptop. (But being able to skype people in-flight definately has a good ego-factor )

They got this question on their Facebook-page and for now, mobile services are SMS and GPRS only, so no calls!

Free Wifi in C and Y (but not M)
Bump
It seems that SK will have Wifi on their IC operations from April. ^
Further, rumor has it, it wil be free on C and Y ^ - while there is a charge in M.

Even though the pricing would not necessarily be the exact same, I don't think in flight calls would still be anywhere near cheap enough to motivate people to just chat, at least now.

As said they don't, but even if they did: There have been phones in planes for ages, I don't see why making the handset your own cell would all of a sudden make people want to spend SEK 30 000 to chat through the flight. (For example calling from AY is $7 a minute).

if you have internet access you can use Skype etc. and talk for hours for free, unless its blocked of course, which I hope SAS will do

LH has the same cbb hardware on board like the SK IC fleet and started to use it with the new provider, so I guess SK will follow suit.

Skype was not blocked back in the first run - and it was not a problem - at least I did not experience any long conversations - if any at all. (except for those of us who just wanted to try it out just for fun for a few minuttes).
