SF things to do

Wife and I have two days in SF and would like suggestions on some
"off the tourist radar" locations in the city [or nearby -public transit accessible] to visit.
Thanks for the help.

Do you have any dates in mind for your SF visit?

Off the top of my head, if...

on a Thursday night you can do Nightlife at the Academy of Sciences. Basically adults night at the science museum with food and beer/cocktails.

on a Friday night you can try Off The Grid at Fort Mason which is a bunch of food trucks in a plaza.

on Saturday and Sundays the 76x bus runs from SF to the Marin Headlands. Live bus arrival data here, as transit in SF can be hit or miss.

you have access to a car (I realize that you say public transit, but maybe keep in mind for another time in SF) you can go down Vermont St which is crookeder than Lombard, and devoid of tourists.

The Exploratorium also has a Thursday night event, "After Dark," 6 - 10 PM, adults only (18+). Check the schedule for your specific date(s): http://www.exploratorium.edu/visit/calendar/after-dark

Also Dreamforce ends on OCT 7th, so there may be a lot of traffic and people around Moscone Center. And there is also a running race on Sunday morning as well, which may impact public transportation along the Embarcadero.

Without knowing your interests it's hard to make suggestions

Are you looking for interesting neighborhoods? Exotic food? Little-known outdoor ventures? A little more information about what interest you have while you're here will help us help you!

Similar request here.
Arriving Sat 4 March evening, leaving Tues 7 March evening.
Been to SF many times but not for 5+ years. Looking for unusual or quirky things to do and see. More sightseeing/experience than food, but anything a bit "different" considered.
Any ideas?
