Bourbon & Branch, SF

Anyone gone here? Thoughts? A cousin of mine said I need to check it out, but I really didn't understand what the big deal was.

Organic flavorings etc.

I BELIEVE you used to have to know someone or be a secret member to get in. My DH's boss used to go all the time. If you like fancy cocktails esp bourbon I gurss it's kind of cool.

It has very high quality cocktails, and a nice atmosphere.
You don't need to be a member- you need to go to the website, make a reservation, and when you ring the bell at the door give them the password (which is given to you from the website/by email). Very easy, and a little bit different.

Good spot. If you like a good cocktail you can also try Bix, Top of the Mark, Rickhouse and Nihon Whiskey Lounge to name a few.

Bourbon and Branch also has the library and the smaller room to the right of the main bar. One can always get into the library with the password that is posted on the B&B website. Rickhouse is owned by the same people and has slightly less expensive drinks. I personally prefer B&B.

Yeah, cool spot. It is a fake speakeasy and gives you a feel of what a high end drinking establishment would have been like during prohibition.

Two ways to get in:

1. Call and make a reservation for a table in the main bar
2. Go to the door and say "books" and you can have a drink in the library which is a smaller venue with very little sitting space.

I thought it was over rated. I liked it but when I saw they were using Smirnoff vodka for the cucumber drink I was a little put off.
Neat place though.

I think vodka is having a Merlot moment (think Sideways) and this place views it as a means to add alcohol and not flavor. I know of at least one fancy cocktail place (Teardrop Lounge in PDX) that will sometimes refuse to make vodka based cocktails. It's all part of the new cruelty.

I wasn't there, but if they are using Smirnoff as their "well drink vodka", than that is an improvement against the rest of the industry.

The bigger issue is that ordered a vodka based cocktail there. The two occasions I have been there, our group never thought about getting a vodka cocktail.
