Search Perks

When I signed up for Search Perks I got the impression that the points earned would accumulate separately until Apr.'09 and then be transferable to add to my LSC balance. Did I get that wrong?

With only about 150 or so days in the promotion, and a daily maximum earning of 25 points, the most points someone could earn, including the sign-up bonus, would be about 4000 points. Miss getting the maximum on a few days and you can't even get that much. If the points can't be combined with points earned elsewhere, then all you could get would be a low value prize and it probably wouldn't be much of an incentive for people to participate.

Well, on the other hand you get tickets for doing nothing else then just searches you'd do anyways. Google toolbar isn't offering you a single penny for that. I've never participated in that survey business, but the effort to payout ratio seems to be better with the toolbar. But I do agree that compared to how club live worked until recently it feels like a meaningless payout.

I don't do that many searches daily, so if that's all I used it for I'd end up with an even smaller balance. I've been using it when playing Flexicon for those occasions when I don't already know the answer, but it takes longer to do that than simply to click the hint button because I have to enter the hint before clicking search. This slows down my Flexicon progress. If I have enough time to max out for the day then I spend a bit more time and earn 25 more points. If I have a limited time to spend, then I earn less LSC points and get some Search Perks points instead. If it slows me down enough I end up with less points than I would have got if I ignored Search Perks. And if I don't reach 4300 SP points by April and I can't transfer the points to LSC then I'll end up using the SP points for miles at the less attractive rates given to smaller redemptions -- presuming, of course, that FF miles return to the gift list, and are still there in April!

Edit: Forgot to add that I use Firefox for everything else, so have to open IE just to earn a few SP points. I'm probably wasting my time.

Have you tried the User Agent Switcher?

No, you didn't get it wrong.
From the SeachPerks! webpage:

With SearchPerks! all the tickets you earn are visible in your Perk Counter, however, they are awarded approximately 3 weeks after the promotion closes on April 15, 2009. At that time, your tickets will be added to your club account to be redeemed.

The Club 1000 daily ticket limit is separate from the SearchPerks! 25 daily ticket limit, so the most you can earn if you are doing both is 1025 in a given day. SearchPerks! may from time to time allow you to earn more than 25 tickets in a given day.

SearchPerks tickets are awarded for using Live Search for your everyday Web searches on specific Microsoft properties. They are not awarded as a result of the searches generated on Live Search Club, Search and Give, the MSN Video site or with the Live Search Club Toolbar.

Remember, SearchPerks! is only for a limited time and all you need to do is download the Perk Counter, complete the registration process, and begin searching!

I was away on holidays so stopped playing for awhile, now I come back and no more frequent flyer awards? I hope they come back soon. I can see this has happened in the past. All awards I redeemed up to 22 Oct have posted in hubby's AA account so at least I have nothing outstanding.

You need to download and install an IE add-on.

I really wonder if they plan to toss them together or create a separate set of accounts, after all they'd also need to share the prices between both groups. But they link quite heavily the normal club (T&C) so chances are they will.

I wasn't aware of it before. I've now used the link supplied but didn't try to install UAS because it wasn't the least bit clear -- to me, anyway -- what it does. I'll guess that it makes websites think you're using IE when you're actually using Firefox. Am I close?

I thought the UAS was a Firefox add-on. Or are you referring to the fact that in order to use Live Perks or the Live Search Toolbar you have to install IE add-ons?

In any case, even if I could persuade Microsoft that I was using IE when I wasn't, I wouldn't have thought I could install the necessary IE add-ons into FF. Is that really possible? Or am I not understanding things?

Yeah I was talking about the tool that counts for perks, it's an IE add-on so there is no chance to make it work together with FF. You're also right that UAS makes the website/server think you're using IE, which isn't of any use here as it's the perks toolbar itself that does the counting and not the server. At least that's how I understood it and is indicated by the rules, once the appointed date in april comes the results will be uploaded and converted to tickets.

I downloaded the perks toolbar and used IE for the first time in years. Amazingly, using IE for FT uses a slightly different and bolder typeface than Firefox. The whole FT website looks better (to me) in IE. Is there any way to get FF to display this font whatever it is?

IE7 is using "cleartype" by default which looks that way, afaik there isn't any way to limit this only to FF, but you can set your entire windows to use this effect. http://liveslick.com/2007/09/22/why-...fox-and-opera/

Thanks, freakazoid! That worked like a charm. Such a quick response and quick and easy change.

I'd transfer some tickets to your account, but that would be against the TOS

Airline Rewards?

Have not logged on to Live Search for a couple of months,
but as it appears to me, airline reward redemptions have disappeared from "Prizes".
Has something changed?

Thanks, Highview

Following all other high value prizes they were removed last monday. When I asked Air Incentive last week about it they replied that they hope to bring it back soon. However Microsoft has also changed its T&C which limit all prizes now to only a single redemption of each item (before that it was 3 of each for hard- and software and unlimited for everything else), which could mean one 2500, 1000, 500, 100 per FF# and that's it.

I particularly don't like the following:

Quote:
Each household may receive a maximum quantity of 1 of each prize item over the life of the Program. If a prize is offered with multiple models, for example, a Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 1000 and a Microsoft Wireless Keyboard Laser Desktop 6000 a household may receive one of each. If a prize is offered in multiple quantities each household may receive no more than one prize of each quantity over the life of the program; for example the household may receive: 1 song download, 5 song downloads, 10 song downloads, and 20 song downloads.
