American Express Serve Prepaid Card - Get $25 when you add $25

It's an interesting twist on a known concept. I do like the fact that this is AMEX and has the security as such. Since this is totally separate from my main bank account I think I would feel a lot more free using the facebook e-mail etc features of it. The downfall of course is that people still have to sign up for SERVE to pay or receive money from you.

Worth a try but not worth it if you need to "load a lot from a credit card"

How much money can I add, send, or request each month?

You can add up to $1,000 per day via an ACH transfer from your bank and up to $200 per day via debit card, and up to $100 per day via credit card or debit card (there is a monthly debit card load limit of $1,000 and a monthly credit card load limit of $250). You may add up to $2,500 to your Serve account per month, depending on your account limits. You can add money from your linked U.S. bank account, U.S. credit card, or U.S. debit card up to thirty times in a calendar month. You can add up to $500 a day with a MoneyPak® (MoneyPak purchase fees may apply).

Also note that there are no fees for loading with a credit card until March 2013, after which time they charge a percentage long with a fixed cost.

As a data point, I funded mine with an Amex and the $25 bonus appeared instantly in my account. I still haven't found out if it was charged as a cash advance, but I'll report back when I do.

I've been funding mine with AMEX with no cash advance problems.

I funded with a CITI MasterCard and had no cash advance fees.

Just opened mine. Funded $25 with my debit card, additional $25 appeared automatically.

Quote: iT IS A SCAM.

I funded $25 from my cc.
Then when I call to activate, they want me to fax my SS card to them.
I ask them to refund my $25. They refused, since they have no way to refund money directly to me.
I put a stop order in my cc. and still waiting for my refund.

It is a scam... do not trust them.. they do not even give my money back.
No, it's not a scam. It's very well run, very effective and easy to use.

Thanks for the post. Say that I use the $50 in one purchase, without any interest to use it again, is there any need to cancel the card afterward? Or is there truly no charge to keep this account idle?

Not sure how they can charge you for an empty account, you should be okay after you empty it out

I just received an e-mail from serve:

"Get a $10 account credit when you use your Serve® Card for one purchase of $20 or more through November 30, 2012.1 Shop online or in stores everywhere American Express® Cards are accepted in the U.S."

That'll be $35 of free money so far from them. Not too bad.
