The easiest way to get to Sochi ?

One of the scheduled Olympic-qualifying events that my kid has to participate in is being held in Sochi, next year February.

Found it on the map, but now need to find the best entry way to get there.
Thru Moscow seems to be a bit of a long stretch - correct me if I'm wrong please.

Are there any other options ?

As we approach the Olympic games in 2014 there might be some new options come on board but right now what is "long stretch" about Moscow? You'll need a visa either way and Aeroflot, price wise, is tough to beat into Russia. SVO is an easy transit point. I think Moscow is your best bet actually.

Thanks for your quick response.

I personally count on a visa-waiver by that time - February 2013 - and definitely for the games as all athletes (and most other accompanying guests) will be exempt thru their own National Olympic Committees and accreditations.

TK may be another option - a short flight across black sea.

Many Thanks - Very interesting and no problem since my German is "problemlos"

But .... received the following message, regardless of departure airport:

Wir fliegen die Strecke Wien nach Sochi ab 31.03.2012 nicht mehr an

Take the ferry across the Black Sea from Trabzon in Turkey. It'll be quite an adventure.

Thanks ... but no Thanks.
I heard and read about this ferry ride - it seems one too often gets more than just the adventure one was looking for

Yeah, Thanks !, I read all this.
From this list only TK seems to be my best International bet from IST.
(Trying to avoid a connection @ MOW - or any domestic airport - at all costs)

You wonder why not more airlines would fly into AER directly from W-Europe with the big events coming up - especially the LCC's
