Aeroflot Catering ( post food sanctions, August 2014)
I don't want to sound insensitive, but this is a question appropriate for this forum.
I am concerned that as a result of the food sanctions announced by the Kremlin, the catering on board Aeroflot's intercontinental Business Class flights will suffer. I have a few of these trips planned in the future. These tickets were not cheap!
I won't be so happy if the quality of the catering on board returns to the Aeroflot of the early 2000s and 1990s during the Berehovsky era , that made Aeroflot famous for the wrong reasons. Low quality, kid allowed to fly plane, etc.
It will probably be business as usual for the next month of so, one wonders where they are going keep the standards to the present level, with these self imposed food sanctions.
FWIW, I was never too impressed with S7's catering in all classes, but Aeroflot is of a different standard.

The prices in grocery stores might rise a bit, but otherwise I don't think there is a reason to be worried about these sanctions at all. Most foods will either be imported through Belarus/Kazakhstan or just relabelled as made in "friendly" countries.

Did SU cut the Coca cola affiliation? A classic bottle of Coca Cola is prominently displayed on the drinks menu on all SU intercontinental flights, for at least the last 3 years at least.

I can confirm that coca cola is still served on normal haul flights (SVO-FCO). However, they did not serve coke on my short SVO-CPH flight.

I believe there was a news story recently of Aeroflot reporting drop in passenger yield for the first time since the 2008 crisis. Flew SVO-LED today and the load was very light, felt like middle of February. Catering was pretty much same -a ham and cheese sandwich and choice of coffee or tea. Nothing to write home about.

The load in Y was very light, particularly for the A330. Current fares support the theory of light loads; I was pricing an LHR-SVO return last week, and SU was coming in at eur202 for Friday outbound/Sunday return. The same is true with other airlines; UN regularly offers eur100 VKO-LHR and eur220-240 for the return (though I saw <eur200 a few weeks back), and even BA is regularly under eur260 even for late purchases. As noted on the BA board, BA has also downgauged and reduced frequencies. More than the food, this reflects the impact of the current Russia-Europe tensions.
