What car do we choose?!

Hello, we are a mess right now. We are a group of six friends planning to visit California, Nevada and Arizona for 18 days, and to do that we have planned to rent a SUV for all of us, and OUR LUGAGGE. Here comes the problem, we are not sure if a Chevrolet Suburban/Yukon XL will have enough room or if we should consider renting a bigger vehicle (but less comfortable for so many km) such as a Ford E350.

We would really appreciate any help because we are not used to this kind of cars and we really don´t know their limitations.

Depends how much luggage and room you want. Consider also renting 2 smaller cars.

We are thinking on a small suitcase and a big one, per passenger. To sum up, 6 cabin suitcases, and 6 big ones.

If you can do this trip in reverse, you can try to grab the AZ driveout specials. Jumbo SUVs may not be included, but large SUVs and minivans are.

I second renting two cars. It's likely much cheaper.

Depends on how much luggage you'll have. With 6 people, you'll need something with 3 rows of seats. A Chevy Traverse/Hyundai SantaFe will definitely be too small for so many people + luggage.

A Suburban (or similar sized vehicle) may just work out. Best to check out the vehicles on the websites of the different car manufacturers. Especially Chevy has IMO pictures that show the interior dimensions rather well.

Chevrolet Suburban

Two cars could make sense, but bear in mind that all the costs will double (young driver fee if applicable; parking; gas; tolls; national park access; etc.).

Why not consider a minivan? With 6 adults, you might be able to fold down one side of the last row for additional luggage space. If that's not enough space, you might need to consider a larger SUV. Keep in mind that some "large" SUVs with 3 rows of seats have only minimal luggage space. You will likely need something like a Suburban if a minivan doesn't work.

I also recommend a Suburban/Yukon XL/Expedition L. The shorter, huge SUVs (Tahoe, Yukon, Expedition, etc) all have basically ZERO storage space behind the 3rd row. You can fold down 1 side of the 3rd row and have luggage space for ~2 people, but not luggage space for 6. I'd think you'd be able to get everything into the Suburban class. They have TONS of space behind the 3rd row. The Ford Transit vans aren't bad but feel like you're in an airport shuttle as compared to a lux passenger vehicle.

Another vote for 2 vehicles. That way you all don't have to be joined at the hip for every meal/sightseeing. Some might want to do one thing, others another.
