Qantas has Halal food if you request it.

Not sure how reliable it is, but this website claims to mention/review Halal meals on planes:

Wikipedia is subject to bias and errors. Anyone can change the contents. Some obvious errors may be caught such as "American Airlines is the only U.S. airline to fly the B-2 bomber in passenger service between JFK and LAX". However, there is one error that has remained for over a year since I saw it. (I didn't do it) I haven't corrected it because wikipedia has a strong anti-outsiders culture. A few administrators, who are members of the public that usually refuse to identify themselves, are rude and even ban people if they don't like what you write.

I know from experience that the Muslim meal served on Delta's international flights are just the vegetarian meal, and not even a good vegetarian meal. I flew Delta between JFK-Istanbul and I thought for sure leaving Turkey the Muslim meal would have some meat in it, maybe even be a nice kebab. But NO, just the vegetarian meal again. The flight attendent I talked to confirmed this and suggested I order the ASIAN Vegetarian meal next time as that tends to be some kind of curry based meal and had some flavor to it.

Airlines like Emirates or PIA, I alway wonder how they get halal food on the return, a flight that is Dubai to JFK is no problem, but the return is presumably catered by a company at JFK, so do they have halal food?

I say this as someone who hardly ever eats airline food...

Most US (and some European) carriers have simply substituted the Halal or Muslim meal of old with the plain vegetarian option. It's totally bogus in my opinion and these carriers need to be held accountable for the simple reason that most people (but not all) who order a Halal meal want something with a little flavour to it. One option, as you have suggested is to order an Indian non-veg or veg meal. However, good luck with that on most US carriers in Economy or Business class. United First does have very good Halal meals ex-LHR, PAR and FRA but ex-USA it's the usual bland non-veg.

PK, QR, EK, TK and most airlines ex-LHR have very good halal meals IMO with PK offering the best food if you like it spicy, oily and down home (no, not that down home mate).

Actually a few years ago I flew Virgin Atlantic between JFK and LHR. The halal meal on the flight TO LHR it was a veg meal, but on the way back you are right, it was quite a nice chicken curry!

But not as down home as PK!

But the veg meal IS halal right? So the airline IS actually complying with the dietary request??

Not sure how you would hold them "accountable" over providing what was requested...

..and isn't that the problem with all Special Meals? That they (regularly from what I hear) disapoint in terms of taste/presentation rather than actual non compliance with whatever restriction is being observed?

Not sure what the answer to that is.....

All the middle east and arabic airlines serve exclusively Halal food. Of the 'major' carriers this includes:

Gulf Air, Royal Jordanian, Egypt Air, Middle East Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, Tunis Air, Air Algerie, Qatar, Oman Air, Etihad, Libyan Arab Airlines and so on. There are also a host of low cost carriers and other minor airlines who, if serving food, it will be halal.

In Asia, look again for the muslim airlines which includes Malaysia Airlines, and as already pointed out, Royal Brunei.

To put together a list try going to the airline quality website and you'll have to start at the top and work down their list of airlines. Again - muslim/arabic speaking airlines will be halal.

Regards

Um...by THAT logic if you ordered any kind of special meal and they give you a glass of water and a plate of ice shavings they have complied with your request....

If they are going to offer a special meal, but in reality just give you ANOTHER type of special meal, in this case offer a "Muslim Meal" but just give you a "Vegetarian Meal" anyways...then they should at least be HONEST and UP FRONT about it.

So in my case with Delta, if on their website they said "Muslim Meal - We offer the vegetarian meal that complies with Muslim Dietary requirements" then I would have known and maybe have selected the "Asian Vegetarian" meal instead. As the FA pointed out it is tastier/spicer than the regular veg meal...

To the OP-does it really make a difference if you don't have halal food? I'm a Muslim but whenever I fly I just eat whatever I get.

Well it obviously matters to the OP as they took the time and effort to post the question.

We all have to decide what we believe and what dictates our actions. Just because you choose to eat non-halal food doesn't mean that others should NOT be able to eat halal food while they are traveling.

Good for you. There are a lot of flying Hindus, Jews and Sikhs who eat "whatever they get" too but I bet there are many many more who live their faith to a degree that requires them to eat only that which they consider permissible. OP clearly takes the matter of eating only halal food seriously enough to want to ensure it's availability.

If by 'exclusively' you mean 'Only' then take Royal Jordanian off the list. I had a recent trip booked on RJ (ended up going TK) and had no problem ordering a kosher meal.

I know its not possible to get anything but a kosher meal on ElAl, I would imagine there must be some Carriers that serve Halal and Only Halal as well
