any standout kosher meals while flying coach? on which airlines? anything you do to get the best kosher meal? do you bring a lot of your won food aborad?
British Airways out of London airports seems to have the highest quality Kosher food. Also more quantity with a nicer presentation.
BA and a few other European airlines, I think Swiss, use food manufactured by HERMOLIS, which in my humble opinion and in the opinion of many others on various messages boards is the number 1 supplier of quality airline food in coach (and probably other classes although I never was there)
I even had gefilte fish as an appetizer once

Swiss before it was taken over by LH used Shalom a local Zurich Restaurant and none too good at that.

I wasn't sure if it was Swiss, Turkish or Belgian (which I all flew last year), but it still doesn't change the fact that Hermolis is probably the best.
I flew BA last week and the meals were great
Too bad you can't order Hermolis food for the lounges at Heathrow, (I am Oneworld Saphire) or could you???????

They still do - but it is no longer a restaurant, as of 12/06 it is Shalom AirCatering. Not bad, but nothing special.
I like LH catering from Sohar's in Franfkfurt. If you are HON Circle they will order fresh F-Class kosher meals into the lounge even if you fly economy - earlier this week I had in the lounge Geffilte Fish, Corned beef, salad, Veak Cutlet, Pistachio Mousse etc etc, all before a 1 hour flight, then yesterday they gave me Salmon and Asparagus, Chicken in Honey with Couscous, Fruit salad. Breakfast is normally a selection of cold cuts, egg salad, croissant, ommelette etc. Not bad at all. You can see pictures of all the meals on
Over the past few months I've had KSML from
Tel Aviv - OK in C class and Y
Rusticelli (Lugano) - Quite good!
Stogel (Antwerp) - Poor (also available FOC in the LH First Class Lounge in MUC)
Bernholz (Vienna) - Quite good
Lanxner (Brussels) - Great for long-life food
Omnitzky (Vancouver) - OK for economy, but same meals in C class so not good enough
Lewis (Sydney) - Poor
Hermolis - Good
Sohar - Good
Shalom - Quite good in C, OK in Y - but one of the few airlines who will even give a kosher sandwhich on a one-hour hop in Y in Europe!

A few years ago when I flew BA in 1st class, I was able to gain entrance to The Concorde Lounge in T4 (I think it was by Gate 14, after the security check when you were in the Depature area you turned Right, there is a Terrace Lounge if you turn Left) Any way I was able on many an ocassion to get a Hot Meal pre-flight even w/o having ordered it before hand. Other times they told me they hadnt gotten their delivery as yet but offered me some sandwiches.

Just looked at the Hermolis website (looks very impressive), and noticed their list of airline customers. They have used the dreaded "Quantas" mis-spelling! (it's a hobbyhorse over on the Qantas board... lol) http://www.hermolis.com/airlines.htm
But i have heard that ordering a special meal often brings a better meal.....

In case anyone is interested, Hermolis will also send food to pretty much any hotel in the UK. We have done this twice, having a 4 day family holiday in the Lake District with the main meals provided by Hermolis. They give the hotel staff any necessary information about heating the meals and seem pretty reliable.
The best - August '97 once in a lifetime BA concorde...British made food & hashgacha, 3 top choices for main course. They oferred a glass of Port after the meal- strange? or just protocol?
The worst - the black "stogel" super-long-shelf-life boxes. appearing on many non-US airlines. I think its some sort of backup or even default, especially
on Asian/Japanese routes. It's entirely non-perishable, u dont get any bread, just crackers...better stop here
Hermolis is nice. CX-NRT economy is a lottery - somtimes Hermolis, sometimes Stogel, u never know. at least the Haagen Dazs is kosher
On trips to Australia and NZ with QF and CX i got AU / NZ local hashgacha. No major complaints there, the Sydney one was nice.
I do always take food. I know someone who got 15,000 miles last month fm LH for forgetting his K meal 6 times in 6 months.
Lanxner were the worst I ever came across, although it has been many years. They supply the food in very difficult to open tins. I used to complain bitterly to BD when they served them in C.
Once I travelled with a broken arm and had to get an attendant to open them. Another time I opened a 'tin' and the contents exploded over my neighbour..
