Need assistance: Qatar Airways: What happens, if a segment of a ticket ist not used

That´s the situation:

Airline: Qatar Airways, flight from Vienna (VIE) to Doha(DOH) (2 adults+ 1 child), one direction in Economy class and the other direction in Business class. The ticket fare (3 persons) for the round trip VIE-DOH is EUR 3,685, -

On the other hand: same date, same classes: flight from VIE to Abu Dhabi (AUH) via DOHA:VIE-DOH-AUH, AUH-DOH-VIE round trip costs only EUR 2,840, - for 3 persons.(Diffenerent flight numbers from VIE to DOH and DOH to AUH, change plane in DOH. ) This is a difference of more than 800 EUR:

Now our idea was to book the flight (round trip) VIE-DOH-AUH and not use our coupons from DOH to AUH and AUH to DOH. Will we get any problems?

Talking with two representatives of Qatar Airways, I got two different answers. The worst scenario one representative pointed out was, that our ticket from DOH to VIE will be cancelled. This is very risky as we travel with a two years old child and have to get home.

On the other hand the difference in price is that high, that we have to take any possibilities of getting a lower price into consideration.

Do you have any experience with such a situation?

What advice would you give to us?

Another consideration for the worst-case scenario: won't your bags be tagged all the way through for the outbound?

Honestly I don´t know and don´t have any experience with such a situation.
We thought that we can ask for tags only to DOH at check-in (e.g. because we want to have our luggage with us in DOH)

doesn't work

When you don't show up for the DOH-AUH flight, all your remaining flights will be cancelled.
They also won't tag bags only till DOH to avoid people doing exaclty what you want to do.

I had the same issue. Qatar Airways LHR-DOH in Y was 700.00GBP, LHR-DOH-AUH-DOH-LHR was 319.00GBP. I opted to just have a stopover in DOH (my destination) and I spent the saturday night minimum stay in Abu Dhabi.
