Just booked another QR flight. A 55 minute transit in DOH. Not really fussed about the Al Mourjan anymore. been in it more times than I can remember over the last 18 months.

It's the consistency of QR that I like. A comfortable seat (inc 77W), very good food and a decent IFE system.

Preferred routing is always PRG- MEL, but I have just finished another round trip with QR: OSL - DOH - ADL. Excellent experience (again) from all aspects. No adverse comments or observations. Thin mattress cover provided and fitted DOH - ADL- DOH overnight legs. Sadly no more QR trips booked...yet. Awaiting sale fares . AY J till then as standard pricing at least for PRG-SYD is very competitive.

Also when queuing for a shower in Al M lounge across the sitting area opposite the entrance I was taken down to and through the sandwich bar to the left of the entrance area, to another set of showers not signposted by the cabanas / workplaces which I didnt know existed.

First J experience with QR coming up in a fortnight and can't wait either. LHR-DOH-HKT. Sadly they've changed the 787 to A330 on the HKT part and on the way out they've reduced transfer time to an hour so no chance to try the lounge but I'll make up for that on the 4 hour wait at DOH coming home.

Enjoy. Don't dwell on the equipment change - eat, drink and be merry.

I was surprised to see this was not in evidence on either KUL-DOH or DOH-ORD sectors last week. I swore that I remembered it from previous segments. Or is a 13 hour flight departing in the day time still not considered "overnight"??

Wow. Having only experienced J on BA, KLM and Thai I was amazed at the product I got with Qatar. I'd say they are in a different league to BA but I don't think they're playing the same game.

The whole experience was stress free at terminal 4. It's the first time I've ever been through fast track security and had no one in front of me. The lounge at Heathrow was relaxing, calm and the staff attentive. Burger and chips and a glass of champagne went down really well! The flight itself was a shock to someone used to BA. All the crew that served me introduced themselves and were very friendly and welcoming. The seat was probably not the best I will find on Qatar but I really liked the 777 seating, lots of storage and I slept nicely till being woken for breakfast. Transfer at Doha was under an hour and simple enough, just found our gate which was already open and walked straight onto the a330. By this point I'd probably had around 10000 calories worth of food so just a nice chilled glass of champagne and another snooze. The minute I woke up I was being asked if I needed anything. On arriving at Phuket any worries about luggage not transferring during the tight transfer at Doha went away when they were first out on the belt! The food was the best food I've ever eaten on a flight and the staff the most courteous and pleasant I've ever had on a flight.

I am also a massive fan of QR J. I reckon it is one of the best products out there. I love the service, wines, and dine on demand concept. A few improvements I would love to see is the A320's have more leg room / pitch in J (or better still lie flat seats), and with so many flights landing with breakfast, breakfast in the lounge and connecting flight serving breakfast, to have some more all day dining options.

I've just completed a round trip LHR - DOH - RUH (and return!) in J. The outbound longhaul was on the 777 and the inbound on the 380. The short hops to and from RUH were on the 330s in F.

Having been used to the direct BA flight and the very convenient timings of that flight, it would have taken a lot for me to actively consider QR - but I have to say I have been blown away by the QR service in comparison to BA - even on the QR 777 where the hard product isn't great.

There are only three benefits of BA for me as far as I can see on this route:
- More privacy if in a window seat
- Non-stop with convenient timings
- More Avios through my BA status.

Otherwise, QR has blown me away by comparison - cost, service, food quality, lounges in DOH, hard product on the 380 (incl Wifi), better IFE, on-board bar, priority boarding, more seat space (and more logically laid out), washrooms (with flowers!), dine on demand - I could go on.. oh, and there is no comparison at all between BA in CE and QR F on the short hops - the difference is laughable. What a shame that BA has come to this in comparison..

Am I getting really too old or is that aircraft dependent?
I recently had a HKG-DOH-CDG-DOH-HKG. On each leg I inquired about mattress (787 and 777). I got the same answer that they only provide mattresses on ultralong night flights, not on 7-9 hours flights.

We are flying QR Business from AMS with a transit of 1hr 30mins next may in Doha en-route to Bali (flight arrives at 01.20 local time). I'm guessing that leaves little/no time to experience the AM lounge on the basis that we will be moving from one plane to the other? 😕

Without delays and with a bit of luck with the gate assignments, should be plenty of time to have a quick tour of the lounge with a glass of bubbly in hand ^

Not sure if AMS is usually subject to security screening on arrival, but you could consider engaging Al Maha transit services. They'll help whizz you through the screening and escort you to the lounge (or your next gate if departure is imminent). Saves you some time and anxiety if you're not familiar with DOH. I've seen quite a few people scrambling around looking for the departure screens to find their next gate when their flights arrive later than expected.

I typically fly HKG-Europe every two months in J and occasionally F. Often with my wife. So my family accumulate some 12 return J ticket per year to Europe (besides a lot of other travel). I use CX (non-stop), BA (one-stop) and QR. I stopped using QR some time ago, given the constant equipment change and the removal of the CX A330 on the HKG-DOH route, replaced by the QR A330 with awful J seats. Now that the 787 seems guaranteed on the route, I restarted flying QR (with my wife) last week. It has been a fabulous flight. We had the 77W on the DOH-CDG route, but I stated elsewhere that I love it for couples.
Some might be nostalgic of the Krug times, but the investment on seats more than offset it.

- Seats are great, better than on CX J and much better than BA J (which is now priced quite competitively).

- Food and wines are magnificent. On HKG-DOH we got outstanding and original food (coconut soup was a wondersul surprise). Wines are F-class CX level: No Krug but loveley Chablis Premier cru, Chateau Smith Haut Laffite (grand Cru de Graves, dramatically improved under Cathiard family). A huge difference with CX mediocre wine and food.

- Service is exceptional. These young world-wide FAs work hard, are well trained and offer dedicated personal service. All dishes prepared and served individually when you want. This is a great feature when you line up two longhaul flights.

- Easy transfer at DOH with good J lounge (transfer at LHR is a painful circus).

- We got PJ on all flights, even the HKG-DOH which lands around 22:50
The flight experience is equivalent to F class on BA and close to CX F. PJ are nicer than BA F (but CX F are superb).

Frankly that QR J rates in every aspect like a F class experience.

Of course a nonstop CX HKG-CDG is attractive. But we departed QR at 7pm rather than midnight and arrived at about the same time. The lovely dinner on board, watching an extra movie followed by a first nap, makes it as convenient. And the fare difference with CX makes it an obvious choice.

BTW: QR website is much better than CX.

I have only seriously started traveling in J since March 2016, after flew about 20 legs on other airlines, every single time, I miss QR J.

If you didn't try QR, you wouldn't know what you were missing. EK, SQ, CX, QF, MH, they all have goods and bads. However QR just blow all of them out of water.

The only "not so good" thing would be the shower facility at DOH lounge and unable to access their real F lounge as OWE. It would be great if they could at least allow J OWE pax access.
