Okay, sorry, what I meant is that they have to check you in/issue you a BP for the connecting flight. Forgot we are talking about baggage.

I think there was a little cross talk. To be clear...
  1. With no checked bags, 2 different PNR, no need to leave airside?
  2. Without connecting BP, go to the transfer desk and pick up boarding cards (for connecting flight) there?
  3. For international to international connections at CMB, no security between departure and arrival, until the gate prior to boarding?

Our scenario...

Connection #1...
We will be arriving on UL flight at 10:55pm and have a departure at 3:25am on QR. Doubt we will have BP's for the connection. We would like grab bp's and just go to the lounge.

Connection #2...
We will be arriving on QR flight at 3:20PM, with a connection just after midnight to CX flight, so we have about a 9 hour layover.

Ideally, we would like to stay airside and head to the transit hotel for a nap/refresh, then picking up our connecting bp's before heading to the lounge later or if it is right there, pick up bp's and then go to the hotel. Possible?

We have no desire to go into town.

Thanks ahead of time to all the CMB experts.

I recently did a transit overnight in CMB.

Bags were interlined EY-QR (all on one ticket).

Had prebooked Transit Hotel (upstairs from immigration - take lift - past the Emirates lounge).

Room was large, clean and comfortable. Roll-away provided for six year old, cost $140USD for the night.

Only had mobile boarding passes for QR flight.

In Serendip Lounge next morning was escorted downstairs to check-in by Lounge staff member and Immigration Officer (I did not have transit visa) to collect paper boarding passes (they couldn't cope with the mobile ones) all painless and easy.

Just be aware if you are overnighting landside or checking in de novo at CMB, you will be asked for boarding pass or e-ticket and passport

1) before you are allowed to enter the airport terminal, and

2) once inside you will likely have to show docs again and will go through a walk-through metal detector and bags must be X-rayed.

Only then will you be allowed to proceed to the check-in counters. If you've flown out of India, it's the same drill.

Just to confirm that the facilities in the CMB transit hotel (while not "modern") are a cut above the associated lounge.

Happy wandering

We had a similar situation but arriving on UL and leaving on CX. The transfer desk agent said she could not issue our boarding passes; rather, she had to go landside with our passports and get them from the CX check-in desk. The snag was that she could not do that until three hours before our departure. And with no BPs we could not get into the lounge. We were thus left cooling our heels in the transit-departure area for a good while (but not long enough to think about booking into the transit hotel). PITA.

Could you not get mobile boarding passes until they could obtain paper ones?

I was able to access the UL lounge prior to a QR flight on a mobile boarding pass which they then took me down to check-in, with an immigration agent, to pick up paper ones.

Thanks. Next week I'm flying BOS-DOH-CMB (ticket 1) followed by CMB-BKK (ticket 2). If I can check my bag all the way through, it will save me going landside at CMB.
