CDG1,

The flights to or from Doha are quite expensive even in economy. One way people got around that is too book at another origin, which is what some did for the EY and QR A380 inaugural. Or book from FRA to DWC via DOH or something similar. For example you can book on Business FRA to DWC via DOH for EU 1500 while it is EU 2900 for FRA-DOH.

From simple to double!
One has to know the tricks of the trade.

You can see some nice pictures of the new Bus on Frankfurt Aviation Forum. I am sure more will be posted later in the day.

Did the author write the article in another language and just Google Translate it? It's awful.

I noticed.

Here's a video with an (extremely) creepy guy from CNN. He is so annoying. He managed interviews with Fabrice Bregier and Al Baker during the flight, as well as being able to see part of the cabin and takeoff from Doha.

I took this flight in J.

The cabin is very cool. With no central bins it has a very open and airy feeling and its a large space, the entrance feature when boarding at Door 2 gives a great feeling of spaciousness. (Though the J lavs are tiny... :-)

While it was nowhere near the razmatazz of the A380 first flight QR did a good job with the PR for the event and it was a fun trip. There were a number of familiar faces from other inaugurals aboard.. Probably the best part was the impromptu Q and A session with the CEO, Akbar Al Baker who provided some interesting insights into the state of aviation and also his competitors in his famously blunt and direct style...

Conversely my return flight FRA-DOH was aboard the Dreamliner. Made the mistake of not pre-selecting a seat and paid a heavy price for my sins. Seats 6EF are a pair of the most dire business class seats I think I have ever seen. Sandwiched in the middle at the back of the cabin, between the 2 toilets and protruding back into the Y cabin with no windows visible it was like sitting in the back of a dark cupboard.

I spent the entire flight trying to decide whether 6EF stood for either "excrement flushing" after the accompanying soundtrack about 2ft from my head for the duration of the flight or for "effectively forgotten" for the level of service myself and the inmate in 6E received compared to the rest of the cabin.. Ignored during the newspaper run, missed with the Godiva chocolates, drinks runs missed about 50% of the time etc.. ho hum, first world problems I know.

Anyway, currently in transit in CMB on my way home to Singapore after the flight. (that should help also give a clue about where to buy tickets from for trips like this in future...

A good write up on the flight by Gino here...

Is the J seat on board the A350 materially different from the 787?

The J seats are supposedly about 4cm bit wider, taking advantage of the fact that the A350's inside diameter is wider at 5.61m to the 787's 5.43m.

Another great review at http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.c...ugural-flight/

This bit really got me excited, as I feel that noise pollution is one of the most fatiguing aspects of airline travel:
The A350 is extremely quiet. Like, unbelievably so. It makes the 787 and A380 seem loud, by comparison. After flying an A330 two days later, I can’t even begin to state how different the noise level was.

He could be CNN's greatest business anchor ever. And the UK's greatest export to America.
