You are right of course. Football is in 2022, and ski already in 2036.

I know...you got excited when this thread got back up but I don't have good news
Baker: the opening of the new Hamad International Airport early next year

And, if you want more info, follow this thread:

Bottom line...probably, by 2020, the new airport will be open

The most amazing miracles:

1. Creation of the universe.
2. Al Baker is still the boss of QR++

To be fair the delay of NDIA has nothing to do with Al Baker.

It amazes me that the airport was within one day of opening for the LCC’s and now it is delayed by 6-9 months?

If this was a public company Akbar would be lucky to be working as a bagge handler.

Leading the development does not mean he is responsible for the delay. Unless you have concrete evidence to show that Al Baker caused the delay or due to his negligence the delay occurred, IMHO to blame him on the delay of NDIA is unfair and unfounded.

Well if Al Baker is in charge of the new airport project if delays occur he's the one who has to respond and report. Too easy to blame the workman who just executed an order. To me it's like saying that in case a party badly loses the elections it's people's fault because they didn't vote for that party instead of the candidate's fault who didn't convince the people. If one wants to get major and strategical role then one has also to respond if something goes wrong.

Al Baker said he wanted the airport to open on 12/12/12.

Note that he didn't mention which century.

I know it's trite to say that the CEO is ultimately responsible for his organization's results, but it's true. We all know that the new airport is a very complex effort with a lot of moving parts, but, still, it's inexplicable for a project to suddenly discover a six- to nine-month delay the day before it was supposed to be completed. That shows breathtakingly incompetent, negligent, and/or dishonest project management, which eventually has to reflect on top management.

It's hard to find the "blame the contractors at the eleventh hour and sue 'em " approach very credible.
