Qantas Club partner membership

Any thoughts please re the best way for my wife to get a Qantas Club membership. I have a corporate membership .

She plans to travel, independently of me, later in the year and will be stuck for hours in Hong Kong. I tried doing a Partner application, linked to my membership number, and it says it can't do it. The phone service was not helpful either - just pay the full whack , the operator said .

So are their any discounted ways to join ?

Maybe your corporate membership can't function as a base to attach the individual partner membership.

If that is the case here are a few thoughts:

1) Ask your company to also have a corporate membership for Mrs. OZFlier and reimburse them for the amount.
2) She can take up a discounted individual membership through AFF or other organizations.
3) You fly enough to get Partner Gold.

Does she have membership of any professional or industry organisations? Many of these offer offer heavily discounted membership.

AHRI, state Law Institutes and Societies (through the Law Council of Australia) are some for example.

She could get a job with the NSW Government as this is $20 cheaper than partner membership and is paid directly to QF. You simply use the NSW Government code on the form to indicate you are an employee. This is the only good thing about working for NSW Govt.

You could get to Gold which is sufficient to take out QC partner membership irrespective of the corporate arrangements.

If this is likely to be a one-off (her travelling indepent of you so not able to avail herself of Lounge Access because you;re not with her) have you considered purchasing a Day Lounge Access? Obviously not available in QP but cheaper than buying an annual membership.

More information about the lounge available for usage in Hong Kong airport can be found at http://www.plaza-ppl.com/hk_en/ - there's a variety of packages available depending on duration of stay desired. Regardless though, it will still be cheaper than a Qantas Club partner membership.

Not only will a pay-in lounge be cheaper in HKG than a year membership of QP, but the HKG QP is a very ordinary lounge.

Your other option would be to find a person who has a 'spare' QP Complimentary Invitation (through Silver status or credit card rewards) and ask them nicely. (I don't, but it has been known to happen.)
