I was watching an old TV show last weekend (circa 1970) with the main character flying out of "London Airport". The shot was of the Queens Building with a few 707s etc lined up behind (and a Pam Am 707 transporting our friend across the pond). What an uncluttered, simple, place LHR looked back then!
Government gives green light to Heathrow expansion

An it is going to get worse. Just when we thought Terminal 5 might be starting to be half decent they now have been given the go ahead for a third run way and Terminal 6!!
''CONTROVERSIAL plans to build a third runway at London's Heathrow airport have been given the go-ahead by the British government.
Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon announced plans for a third runway and sixth terminal at the world's busiest international airport despite fierce opposition from environmentalists, nearby residents and local MPs.
The government argues the £9 billion ($19.85 billion) project will bring economic benefits to Britain, but green campaigners say the expansion will spell disastrous for climate change.
The government hopes the new runway can be completed by 2020. The expansion will mean an extra 600 flights added each day to Heathrow's busy schedule, with passenger numbers expected to rise to 122 million from 66 million'.

I have looked through the thread and have not noticed if the T3 London lounge will be a Qantas and BA joint lounge or just a BA lounge. It does make a difference to the London based QF Plats as we would get lounge access on any flight to Hellhole Third World Airport Named After the Murdering President International from T3, as opposed to just 1W flights.
Also what I meant about asking the chef nicely is that they have some non-instant noodles as well (maybe a limited supply or reserved for chinese). As a non-chinese I've managed to get them by asking nicely and these are not the noodles on the menu.
Are you sure about this. I think you might get mixed up with the different type of instant noodles. They do have rice noodles (But are instant noodles type as well).
There is definitely NO noodle bar in the LHR lounge.
The dim sums are ok (typical microwave stuff u get in 7-11 at HK).

I am pretty sure that it is a BA Terraces that is being built and QF will use it; but no idea if it will be a QP (probably not). T4 lounges had special QF rules due to the JSA and presumably the same would apply at T3, however I don't think this included Qantas Club access. It did include WP access to the Arrivals lounge even when not flying BA, fwiw. I never had any non-Oneworld flights out of T4 so no idea if there were any special rules for the departure lounges.
BA will run the business class lounge (Galleries Club) and Qantas will run the First lounge. The move from T1 - T3 will now likely be delayed until later in the winter with a possible knock on effect for the T4 - T3 move.
Given that WP anytime access is now restricted to Qantas International J lounges or Domestic/International QP's, WP's might be SOL unless flying oneworld.
Any new lounge would be better than the current sorry state of T4 BA lounge, I'd have thought!
I'd just like to get a proper Flounge back for the flight to Australia, or even just a decent, non-crowded J lounge to a similar standard as BA T5B lounge. I'm sick of the crowded, run-down T4 BA lounge.
So what do they mean by Winter?
Winter 08-09 or Winter 09-10?
Actually I think from an arrivals perspective it is better to be in T4 so u can be bussed to T5 for the Arrivals lounge, whereas for T3, you have to use the AA Arrivals lounge (which is not bad, just not as good as BA).

Bussing to T5 arrivals is only for BA metal though I believe.

The showers are actually very good in the AA lounge. Breakfast has no hot items but rather nice sandwiches apart from the normal cereal, juices, coffee etc. And the reception staff can be charming in an old-fashioned American way.
Agreed. But it is the worst FL that AA has (and they only have a few); yet LHR is their busiest F airport (maybe busiest in J too, with 20 777 flights per day). Upgrading to the level of the ORD FL would be nice. Given that it hasn't changed in the past 5 years, it clearly won't change soon. The last I heard is that BA/QF will pay for a new lounge at T3, and the existing AA and CX lounges remain.
Both AA's J and F lounges at LHR are currently undergoing an upgrade. The J lounge is currently 1/3 its normal size due to construction. Agent told me in December it will take about 18 months to complete and will be a vast improvement.
