Interesting news on this thread where BA now offer "anyseat" rewards to BA Golds for double points. link
Wouldn't be infinitely better and more simple if Qantas implemented a system like this, which has also been implemented by airlines such as NH and JL. "Frequent flyers" can enjoy increased availability or "anyseat" for say double points, while "Frequent spenders" can have the same level of availability as current. Seems logical to me.

I agree .
At least there would be a chance this way that the woeful selection of international award seats may not reduce any further for ordinary awards.

I called QF sales yesterday on the 131131 number and asked if they had their training on the new FF scheme yet - the answer was that they had.
I said that i gathered that the anytime redemption's would kill off the "request" capability that they can use for Plat flyers. She said that it would not, and that would still be available - in fact that was something that the Premium desk had asked and the answer would be that it can still be done.
I guess its all just a wait and see. I do get most of my points through credit cards as well, but when flying I make sure that I do fly qantas and obtain platinum as without platinum you have great difficulty in using points.

Yes - that would be good for Frequent Flyers. But probably not as good for the QANTAS bottom line :-)
The quicker we get some competition in Aus (e.g. DJ joining Star Alliance) the better IMHO.
This thread is moving way off topic.
It is an interesting debate, but maybe it needs it's own thread.
I am keen for people's thoughts on QF and the QFF improvements.
The world will continue to argue the oil issue till the cows come home...
I don't want to displease anyone, but l am keen on the original thread and don't want it to shoot off into never never land......
At the moment, I guess everyone is waiting with baited breath what Qantas will be announcing in the week ahead. I imagine when those announcements come out, this thread will burst into life with all manner of cost comparisons, but expect AnySeat to be expensive!
I think this is not what QF is thinking. QF wants QFF to be a general shopping rewards program, which will be separate entity and sold or floated on the stockmarket. In theory (and this is not going to happen) the program wouldn't need Qantas at all.
You earn points at your petrol station and spend it at Bunnings. Flybuys on steroids. It will take the Aeroplan approach as a very independent business. The big difference in Australia is that QF can get away with offering a much, much lower redemption value than anyone else on the planet.
Interesting about Bunnings. Given that Coles has joined Bunnings as a stablemate within Wesfarmers, I had wondered if perhaps Bunnings may join the FlyBuys group.
And if you think the Qantas redemption rate is low, have you looked at FlyBuys?

Just received in the post my "The one and only... Frequent Flyer" -- letter with accompanying T&C's effective 1 july. Am wondering if AU post dropped these a day early by accident.
Anyway -- changes are:
More ways to earn without flying (i.e. more partners)
Qantas and Jetstar Any Seat Awards (we all guessed this one)
and
More choice in the Qantas Frequently Flyer Store.
They make a big deal about "Classic Awards" continuing to provide the "same great value, as the number of point required...has not changed"
So nothing too exciting here.
Any Seat indicates:
Flexible, Accessible all year long as long as a seat is open, good for both domestic and international (use all points or points plus pay option) -- access to seats in all cabin classes, conditions vary depending on the award selected, points required vary and are not always linked to retail fares -- they are generally higher than classic awards especially when demand i high."

Let's see what tomorrow will bring. If the points required for anyseat awards is what has been posted here I will write a long E-Mail to QF and telling them about BA and LH charging for anyseat awards about as much as QF charges for classic awards....

Yep we just need to see what the point required actually are.
