re: Amex: Just noticed in the SPG forum that SPG Amex points will now not be transferrable to QFF at all. :
It is not an Amex issue it is purely SPG and QF. SPG cease to have any relaitonship with QF FF. Not that transferring SPG points ot QF was ever that good value when you have other programs like AA to tranfer to. 70K AA Vs 120K QF for a J award to HKG... hmm let me see
Programs: QF WP (LT Gold), LH SEN, OZ Diamond, CO Nothing, HH Gold, SPG Platinum, Avis PC

Very true, but there are places on the planet where only QFF will get you so if you wanted to redeem points transferring them from SPG was a good option for some people. It is sad that it is gone.
How will the "anytime" award redemption affect availability of upgrades? My limited experience suggests that award seats and upgrade seats came out of the same inventory.
Do you think they'll introduce "anytime" upgrade availability, requiring, perhaps, more points than the current upgrade system? (Noting that twice the "upgrade" points is about the same as an award J ticket. And noting that "more points" is almost certainly part of the plan anyway.)
I really hate SYD-LAX or SYD-LHR in WHY when J is half-full and I have a squillion points. (Also hate these routes because of the destination airport but that's a different thread.)

This must be AMEXs way of trying to keep market share given all the other cards that are using AMEX (eg Westpac Altitude Amex which is giving 4 Altitude points per $1 until end May .. and this equals 2 QF FF miles per $1 spent).
Hi I can't find any info on this. Does anyone have a link or is this a promotion for new customers?
QANTAS frequent flyers will be able to use their points in the same way as cash to get any seat on any flight from July 1 as part of a revamp of the airline's loyalty program.
The airline will also make it easier for its five million frequent flyers to earn points from an expanding range of frequent flyer partners and to burn them on new items such as merchandise and retail vouchers.
The most drastic change will be the addition of a second tier to the loyalty program, to be known as Anyseat, which opens up all seats on Qantas and Jetstar flights.
....
...
The airline estimates a return flight from Sydney to London costing 128,000 points in the Classic system will cost about 200,000 points when roughly $700 in taxes and charges are factored in.
..
..
First time I have seen any specific points mentioned
With QFF enhancements, the "good stuff" tends to happen with the announcements, "not so good stuff" 6 months later.
e.g. With the 24/11/04 changes, Family Transfers were available at the time of the announcements and "no upgrades from N, O & Q" was enforced 6 months later.
Maybe Qatas considers something like anyseat to be "good stuff"?
like serfty implies, the good changes will be talked about early, and any negative changes (if they are part of the announcement) will be announced on the day with a 6 month period between the announcement and change.
However, with the current level of competition in the FF market (eg Velocity starting up, V Australia flying to the US, defections to AA, economy slowing down etc), I doubt that there will be anything too surprising. Within a few hours of the announcement, the advantages, disadvantages and anything else will be calculated and spoken about here and any other Frequent Flyer forum!
If it is in the papers now, with some specific details of the changes, I think we can assume that the official announcement is not too far off.
they are yet to pitch the advertising business (as per an earlier post) for the relaunch, so I wouldnt hold your breath. The current info suggests it will be a July relaunch.
will there be a separate additional pool of seats for the higher
"Anyseat" level or will the number of seats available for any non revenue awards stay the same ie the number available for classic seats will be reduced ??
I suspect they may be still weighing up the possibility of selling off QFF. If that is the case, then changes will either be delayed or shaped to increase the sale price of the program.

My reading of the below, which is quite clear, indicates that what we have currently is still there , but they add in "any seat" so people can book flights weeks or a few months in advance instead of having to do it basically 10-11 months in advance. If this is all true then
"Qantas Loyalty executive general manager Simon Hickey said yesterday: "Everything that's there today - all of the value that's there today, all of those seats, all of that capacity, everything that's in that program today - none of that changes"
