"Classic award seats are subject to capacity control and avilability is limited. Some flights may not have Classic seats available".
So they are indeed reducing the seats available on the old/current system, and maybe by a significant amount.
Added to all the above this is an absolute disgrace. This is what lack of competition does - QF can make what ever profit-related decisions it likes knowing that many will just bite the bullet and they have nowhere else to be. Shocking treatment of customers, and they dare to suggest this is an improvement of the programme.
Sadly, and this just proves the point, no one is surprised.
PLEASE everyone use the FEEDBACK - Tell us what you think button on the page... they so and so's need to know what so many people think of this.
You know I used to think that the use of Amex points to purchase travel with Amex Travel directly was a rip off at the rate of 10,000 points = $100. In fact I still think it is.
But in general it seems that using the points direct with Amex will be 'cheaper' than using Qantas Anyseats. Plus you get the flexibility of a purchased ticket, choice of any airline, earn SC, FFP etc.
I thought Qantas were trying to build loyalty to them - this is doing the exact opposite as far as my business is concerned.
Qantas should hang it's head in shame.... Off to AA Exec Plat status for me. This year I qualify for "Partnership gold" and have spent years getting to enough points for a first class return to London. At 392,000 return that seems ok, however after checking the dates that I want, and find that the points clock in at somewhere over 1,800,000.
Well, maybe the programmers haven't got real data yet and the web page is spitting out nonsense, for example PER-SYD one way in J, "classic" 36,000, "anyseat" 195,000, that can't be right surely? QF may be mean but they're not vampires?
Programs: QF Plat./OW Emerald + Life Silver, IC Plat. Royal Ambassador, etc.

A clarification please - are these examples (and the other ones listed here) Any Seat awards or Points Plus Pay awards ?
If they include all the fees and charges etc (the Points Plus Pay option) I can see QF being able to defend them (outrageous as they still may be), but if you have to pay taxes and the fuel fines on top of these millions of points then it really would be the greatest outrage in the history of frequent flyer progs.
Oh, and have I read it right that the Points Plus Pay option will only be available on Any Seat but not on Classic awards ?
If you thought you were going to get a better deal, then you were sorely mistaken. It was obvious from the pre-release press that it would allow more options, but no better deal.
The programme is the same - however, you have more options with the new anyseat redemptions. Yes, they're scandalously expensive on points, but what do you expect? Obviously quite a lot of FFs have quite a lot of points, otherwise they wouldn't be priced so "high".

I agree - just looked at 'one' example, namely SYD-MEL on 19OCT in J - this would cost me 22,176 points on an AnySeat award, or 16,000+++ points (and AUD 40.28) OR 22,000 points for a classic award.
The difference between an AnySeat award and a Classic award is that the Anytime Award books into standard seating, and is subject to the terms and conditions of that fare class, rather than the T&C's of an award flight.
So if you book an award in J class, it is subject to J class conditions, meaning you can transfer to another flight if there is J class seating available. If you book an AnySeat award into K class, you will still get a WHY class seat if you show up at the airport early and want to transfer to an earlier flight, it will show up as a K class flight to the check-in droids.
Whilst I think the redemption levels are extortionate, I can see some good sides to this scheme.

And do you really think qantas care about upsetting the customer?.
Come on, the most arrogant airline in the skies..!
And what's the betting the awards dry up...Its all smoke and mirrors to get the fuel paid for. They just can't change the normal scheme mid year, so bring in another scheme and get rid of the seats from the cheap one.!.

Yup, ditto.
Note that most of the complaints have been the requirements for J/F travel - and cranking up a million points isn't all that difficult if you do enough J/F travel, stay at partner hotels, rent partner cars and use a partner card for buying everything other than your daily newspaper.
The anyseat whY options, which most of the great unwashed will use, aren't too rough - particularly when the great unwashed likely got xxx,000 points for taking out a mortgage, buying a car......

So do tell how much travel I would need to do to get 1,000,000 points
Also tell me a car dealership which allows you to put the whole car on a credit card. The best I have got is BMW which allowed $25,000 on my AMEX or I was going to walk

Isn't the lack of F/J awards the main bugbear of classic awards though? Jumping on line I have pretty no problems getting whY awards a reasonable date out from the date of travel at fairly convenient dates.
