Don't get excited. You have no choice either.

As a frequent visitor (in the evening) to that small lounge keep your expectations low. It is a third party operated shared lounge used by QF, EK, CI and others.
Will have a little food and drinks.

So I guess maybe we'll just arrive a little late to reduce our time in the lounge. Would there be any one making real coffe in the lounge?

Only you making the coffee. Its all self service.
Has 1 person on the door. Maybe 1 or 2 people out back at that time.
When I am there at 19:00 (JQ) the 1 person does it all. (on the door, checks the food, cleans up). At times I have been the only lounge visitor

At the time I travel immigration does not open until 90 minutes before the flight.

There are several flights that leave at that unsociable hour. http://www.christchurchairport.co.nz...t-information/
The queue through the door check and then the Xray machine (2 machines operating if you are very lucky) could be long. Then use Smartgate.

After escaping from the duty free maze go to the right.

Edit
Some of these images are old. They reduced the area for food a few years back. Looks better in the photos than it is.

Yes: basic. Like a small QF regional lounge.
It will have a little hot food/hot snack even at 05:30

In the lounge now. It is actually a quite nice one. Gate agent has already got our names on a piece of paper. Very small as expected, not much hot food, however cold plate is alright. Drinks and wine selection is better than most J class lounges that I've been in Asia ( no need to compare with any F lounge or flagship lounge). Even got shower facility while the longest route is to Melbounre I guess. It is a nice lounge, not the one you want

It's also used by some of the Chinese carriers and EK but that does stop in Sydney and then again in Bangkok.

There are some longhaul flights ex-CHC:

SQ to SIN (NZ lounge)
EK to DXB via SYD & BKK (Manaia)
CI to TPE via SYD/MEL (Manaia)
CZ to CAN (Manaia)

Real coffee in New Zealand based lounges is pretty limited, and NZ is the only that currently do it 5 of there lounges.

Hopefully QF/EK might review the CHC lounge now that QF is upping flights into CHC.

Doubt it, The CHC lounge used to be normal Qantas Club but they outsourced it years ago and I doubt it will return.
