As much as I usually hate people saying this...I'm reasonable close with some of the decision makers on this.

As I understand it the decisions were very much made on feeding traffic to QF/JQ international services. In addition, New Plymouth and Napier make a lot of sense in terms of geography and regional population. Palmerston North has a large number of students (Massey University) while Nelson (along with arguably the first two) have significant tourism numbers/marketing potential.

As I understand it the Wellington-Nelson route was not an intended outcome when the process began, but came as a result of intense lobbying (and presumably a sweetheart deal) from Wellington Airport.

With Jetstar Regional starting up next week, everything seems to have gone very quiet on the Regional Front?

Are the Q300s back in NZ yet? haven't seen them around recently.

Also I wonder how they have gone with terminal access at AKL,NSN,NPE? AKL,NSN are pretty tight already.

The inaugural JQ regional flight (to Nelson) is leaving from gate 60. That is a new gate in the domestic terminal which did not previously exist. I wonder if pax will be bussed out to a remote stand.

Doesn't look like gate 60 is on the latest apron charts for AKL, must be an virtual gate number? http://aip.net.nz/pdf/NZAA_53.2_53.3.pdf

Gate 57 is right next to SkyCare, unless they have made an hard stand in-between SkyCare and the fire depot?

Did notice earlier this week there was the Q300 parked up at Airwork
