Red Roo, I hope you stick around and actually respond to posts. There have been many addressed to you in your absence.
For someone to disappear like that and not give reasons for not continuing to post would normally be fine but a return coinciding with a new marketing campaign appears, with respect, disingenuous.

Thanks to the links given by percysmith, it looks like it's Martha Marlow singing Randy Newman's song Feels Like Home.

[mod hat] Let me shed some light on this. Red Roo's return to FT has nothing to do with a new marketing campaign. For the past couple of months we have been working with the team at QF to see whether and how Red Roo could engage more with the community at Flyertalk. I think we have found a good mechanism how to facilitate everyone's goals and I am looking forward to more engagement from QF in the future. [/mod hat]

Welcome back hope you can provide some valuable contributions to this community.
I chose to view the video by clicking the supplied link, but I too cannot view the video, strange as I can view other QF posted videos.
Oh well it appears to be targeted to Australians living in Australia so I do not feel the love.

Well that was an anti-climax, living in the Netherlands and bought an EK/QF F-ticket to SYD for this December i wanted to see or at least feel the spirit of Australia - this video is unavailable for your country - Now my only view of Qantas is still Pam Ann's Gloria Qantas

Regardless it does not change my opinion of the account being used just to push adverts

QF bother to engage with the online flying community and people still complain...
It's great to see QF care and I'm mostly a fan of the ad. I'd just like to see a bit more footage of the planes.
I can relate to the whole 'home' thing. A few months ago I visited the Middle East and most things seemed to go wrong (Gaza war started, MH17 shot down literally 3hrs before we flew out of Tel Aviv, rental car was rear-ended by a truck - but otherwise is was a fascinating trip btw). We flew with El Al to Hong Kong and then QF128 back to SYD and I must admit seeing the big red-tailed A380 was a great relief. The first time my heart rate dropped to normal levels in 3 weeks.
Here's the big beautiful thing:

I received said email this morning - went to take a look, only to be presented wtih the message:
"This video is not available in your country."
Which is a shame, as I'm feeling very nostalgic right now - Oh well I'll be home in just over a month (after 7 years away), so guess I can watch it then
...
Having now seen the short clip on the smh website (thanks for the above link) - I have to say it definitely resonates - I for one can't wait to step foot on the QF A380 in London next month.

I wouldn't call what we have seen so far "engagement". The complaints are based on past history. If QF want to make this type of activity part of their member interaction then follow it through. As it stands like Dave Noble said this current thread is in essence company generated spam.
If there had been meaningful participation and then a commercial advert , would not have been so bad
If I wanted adverts , I could go and watch commercial tv
Perhaps the QF staff which handle the Red Roo account will provide meaningful engagement and may well end up having a different view to it

After a period of absence, I'd like to reignite the relationship by sharing our newest brand campaign: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16RhgfA662k
For details, visit: http://www.qantasnewsroom.com.au/med...eels-like-home
Due to licencing restrictions, the video cannot be seen in some countries. However for those who can, I'm keen to hear what you think.

I agree with comments of others that perhaps a focus on solely Australian customers is why Qantas has been losing its way.

Why consider irrelevant the views of FTers based outside Australia (many of whom have QFF status and all of whom have at least some interest in Qantas and some fly Qantas a lot)?

That is exactly what I thought when I received the email, before I even read this thread; QF using FF email to distribute advertising for QF is
ETA: Haven't watched the ad; I figure I'll get sick of it on TV or on board soon enough.

For a campaign that is supposedly about bringing Australians home it is ironic that so many people have posted they cannot view it outside Australia (can anyone outside Australia actually view it? I can't.) It doesn't seem well thought out.

and the same from the FF Email I received today (using the hola method mentioned above).
That said if it takes that much effort to view the ad outside of Australia, then most people won't bother tbh.
While personally I find the ad quite emotive, I'm not sure it would have the same effect if I was actually in Australia at present.
