Hi everyone, I am currently Bronze but over next 12 months I have several trips from uk to USA and australia all on oneworld and I will receive enough status credits to get gold. The year after I will have my usual little amount of travel and will not have enough to retain it. As a gold member I understand you get free qantas club. What happens when your gold finishes. Can you pay the renewal for the qantas club? I am asking because I do not want to pay the joining fee if I don't have to but would be happy to renew after gold downgrade at the renewal prices. Thanks guys!
Also you get three months complimentary QP membership - near the end of the three months you get an email inviting you to renew and stating the current QP renewal prices (no Join fee indicated).
Thank you very much. I thought that I should buy that the qantas club as I will be on about 16 AA and qantas flights with my partner so we could use the lounge. We don't drink so just for a coke and a nibble of crisps. But really the joining fee puts me off. Your advice is appreciated. I will go gold for 12 months then back to bronze with 3 months free qp membership then I can renew. That seems good and fair to me. Thanks so much

With your 16 AA and Qantas flights is this all one or two trips within a span periods of 30 days (each)?
If so, a USD99 30 days A/C membership each time may be better value. Full member rights including guest access before AA or QF flights.

I'd switch the points earn to at AA - if you're going to earn enough (obviously depending on where you start) to make it to gold then you'll earn probably earn enough to make it to platinum on AA, which gives you better access/privileges and better burn. You could then softland back to gold on AA and still buy (at a lower rate than QF charges) QC access (with AC access as well).

I would agree with that. if going to USA, do it on AA or on a codeshare flight and depending on the fare basis and US destination could get AA Platinum via challenge on 1 trip. Then with 100% miles bonuses would end up with a lot more valuable FF miles
If travelling in economy, if flying BA to USA, unless on H class or higher will only earn 25% miles to QF, if on an eligable AA class below K will only earn 50% miles ( note some AA classes earn 0 miles to QFF). Credited to AA, both will earn at 100% even on the lowest fares
Thank you all very much for your help. There will be 2 trips london Melbourne return and uk to Lisa return on ba and a few internals on AA. Most flying on qf. I was just thinking about the future as this won't be regular flying for me. I think the renewal price is around 300$ for qf club and the admirals club yearly is around 400-500. With the AA 30 day $99 membership is it easy to buy and receive card to show qf lounges to get access. That does seem like a good deal

I am just happy if I can get to the qantas club through gold then dropping down and paying the renewal.
I will have a few domestic trips with qf as well. I worked it out as 16 flights
you will get the one free pass in addition to your three months complimentary membership. Sell the pass on ebay to offset the cost of QF membership Alternatively, you might want to look into the cost of AAdmirals club membership. Sometimes they have some very good deals. you can access QF clubs as part of the deal.

This is very tricky, as my travel on AA will be just a few little flights and a couple of ba flights. MOst flying will be on qantas and I am moving to Australia at the end of the year.
The only thing I may be interested in right now is the 30 day admirals club to get me into the lounges, but wondering how that will work, I am not sure if anyone knows here I may have to ask on the AA forum, as they will let me into QF lounges but if I pay do i have to wait for a card to be received or do i download some documentation or something?

Be aware that as July 2013 only Qantas flights will get you status points, so forget about earning status on all AA flights for the 2nd half of the year.

not correct!!! All eligible oneworld flights earn status credits.
