Baggage question on QF Operated flight BA7311

Hi Guys,

I am travelling on BA7311 on August 10th. I have tried to establish whether if I can purchase a 3rd ad 4th bag for my trip in PE.

Calling the BA call centre has led me to obtaining my operating PNR and they have asked me to contact QF to ask whether I am eligible for the 7 day pre-purchase rule.

Below is the reply I got after a length conversation by email with Qantas.

Dear Mr Edades ,

Thank you for your e-mail.

You are unable to pre purchase excess baggage on the booking reference <Operating PNR here> as this is not a 'Live' booking. Any excess you have would be at the airport.

Call Qantas Contact Centres on 13 13 13 (in Australia), elsewhere contact your local Qantas office at http://www.qantas.com.au/needhelp/dyn/contacts/index

Regards

Can someone tell me what a 'Live' Booking is and also if this is a legitimate reason for me having to pay $120 a bag?

I am not sure that you can pre-purchase luggage when on the codeshare. Could you not switch to the QF flight number and that will make it easy

You may find that there is a Qantas booking reference separate to the BA one which may allow you to do things such as seat selection , luggage purchase and OLCI

Hi Dave Noble,

I have my operating PNR and had selected seats already but what I am trying to establish is, is whether me flying on a code share automatically means i cannot buy luggage from QF.

I cannot switch to another flight as no one has T class seats available any more last time I checked and desperately want to be on a QF A380 (except when its VH-OQD ;) )

I have emailed QF already to get an official word on this and also clarification on what a 'live' booking is.

I just looked this up http://www.qantas.com.au/travel/airl...gage/global/en

Additional baggage allowance is available for Qantas operated flights with a "QF" flight number. It is not available for flights operated by another carrier (such as codeshare or interline flights) or if connecting on the same-day to a flight operated by another airline. The additional baggage rates of the operating airline applies in these instances.

You may be on a codeshare, however your operating carrier is QF. Sounds like it may not be able to be done online, but I would argue you should at least be able to be offered the prepaid excess rates when you arrive at the airport, due to the limitations of their system.

FYI - when we have booked QF flights on the BA flight number through AMEX Travel, in our frequent flyer booking we always have two PNRs for the same booking. I would expect this is the PNR you chose seats with?

Hi m0hamed,

Yes, I have selected my seats using my operating PNR.

When using MYB with my operating PNR, I shows as QF1 - this makes me believe that I should get the pre-paired yet online.

When using MMB with my original PNR it shows as BA7311 which I am expecting.
