I don't really get this move. Apart from giving more transparency to see how much QF International is losing, doesn't this increase inefficiencies in terms of duplication of costs? Or are they pretty much run separately anyway?
Is the reason for this to show to the unions how much International is losing and use it as a stick to show how dire their situation is and force them to make concessions?

Splitting dom & intl is some what similar to what Virgin have done

And most of QF has always run separately short and long haul. Cabin crew don't interchange at all, most of the pilots don't, maintenance done separately, even some of the soft service amenities are different when they could be the same. So the only significance of this change is to executive pay and to financial transparency. It does nothing to fix the reasons that QF is not competitive with other airlines, or only flies to 1.5 cities in Europe
