Qantas multi-city question/problem
Here is the situation:
I have Qantas multi-city ticket.
flying out to Sydney on Monday (13.02) - 9pm from London.
Staying in Sydney until Sunday (19.02) and then flying to Auckland.
after 2 weeks stay - leaving from Auckland to London.
Problem i have is that i have risk not getting evisitor visa approved on time for my Sydney stay. (4 days in Sydney before leaving to Auckland)
I wouldn't mind to go to Auckland directly few days earlier (as no visa required there) and use Australia only for Transit, but apparently with Qantas it's not so easy just to change one flight (Sydney - > Auckland) t They want to change whole booking which is extremely expensive.
I wanted to buy on my own just additional ticket (Sydney>Auckland), and in case i wouldn't get evisor on time - I would fly directly to Auckland (using Australia as Transit). But Qantas explained that if I will cancel (not show up) for any of original flghts whole trip will be canceled.
Any advise? anyone been in similar situation?
Thanks,

Why not start by going to the evisa website and applying. Unless the system flags an issue then they are normally granted instantly.
Apply 1st and then if there is an issue revist potential issues with making changes
https://www.ecom.immi.gov.au/visas/app/uu?form=TV
Takes 5-10 minutes and then you will know whether there is anything to worry about. In all likelihood you will get instant approval ; just print out the proof of approval just to be safe on the very unlikely case of needing to prove you have a valid visa

Is this the same as those the USA residents need before visiting OZ?
If so, then look here:

USA residents require an ETA which cost $20 whilst UK passport holders require an evisa which is free. UK residents are not eligable for ETAs
As far as the actual question asked by the OP, Qantas is correct that the rest of the itinerary will be cancelled if failing to take one of the sectors
If there is a large fee to make the change, then that is unfortunate but has to be borne.
One thing to look at as an outside chance is whether your travel insurance ( if you have any ) might cover visa issues
