Strange 744 seating config
Can anyone enlighten me as to what sort of a configuration QF0006 on 27MAR11 has? I have never seen it before and I can't see it on any of the seat maps.
J - Rows 1 - 24
Y - Rows 38 - 75 (all in a 3-4-3 config)
Remembering this flight is sold as J/Y only.
Any ideas?

Maybe one of the refitted 744's where they are removing First, as previously announced? Or are they now adding Y+ to the 2 class 744's? (same net effect I guess, a three class bird with J, Y+ & Y).

I would say the latter - methinks there are too many seats in Zone A and Zone F (Upstairs) for Skybed Mk II which have the same "pitch" as the 744 F seats.

Thinking about this again - it's a current two class with row 26 to 37 having their Y seats stripped and replaced with PE seating.
Not the full reconfig at all.

2 theories:
1) This is the standard 2-class 744, but they're reserving rows 26-33 for higher-level QF flyers than the OP.
2) This is the standard 2-class 744, but they are holding rows 26-33 unsold unless needed because it makes the in-flight service more efficient to eliminate the minicabin at the front.

I heard talk last week that the 2 class B744s will be getting a reconfig of some sort over the next few months....
This must be it!
Y+ seats being finally added.
Hopefully they add the new Y class seat covers as well as the updated carpets and curtains to match the rest of the B744 fleet!

The Qantas Source seems to have picked up on it!
"Seat maps have begun to appear for flights in Spring 2011 showing the two class 747-400 fleet with a Premium Economy cabin fitted. This was mooted in 2008 but the re-fits were cancelled at that time. Economy rows 26-37 are removed and replaced by two full rows of eight Premium Economy seats in the forward mini-cabin, four pairs of two seats on the left hand side alongside the stairs and galley and a further two full rows of eight seats behind."
